"Here, you can help me put groceries away." I said as Erin and I walked in.
Erin nodded her head, and started putting things in cabinets and the fridge.
When we were done, we sat down on the couch and turned on a movie.
"Hey Kailynn, the real reason I came here...Well..I kind of needed to ask you something..." Erin said.
My stomach felt like it had just did a backflip. A question? What could it be? The few seconds in between Erin saying that and me asking "What is it?" Were really stressful. What could it be?
But something in me hoped that Erin was about to ask me out.
"Well...I know I probably shouldn't be bringing this up, but it's been bugging me a lot." Erin said, her voice just above a mumble.
I waited for her to go on.
She sighed. "Kailynn. I know what road you were on when that semi hit. I found out what speed you were going. 98 miles per hour. The speed limit on that road is only 30. You don't go that fast on purpose. Kailynn, what were you trying to do?"
I remembered. The place that road leads to if you're not careful. The place I was headed. I wanted nothing more than to end it all at that very moment. And that's what would have happened. So in a way, although it didn't seem like it at the time, that semi truck that almost killed me on its own...Saved my life.
"Kailynn, you were headed to the cliff, weren't you?"
I was silent.
Erin sighed again. And then I felt her lips against mine. Our eyes met afterwards.
"I love you." She said.
I hesitated.
"I love you too."
