"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
—Robert Frost, "The Road Not Taken"I sat meditatively in my room on my useless mattress. Sometimes I found that the only way to be patient was to fill my mind with the goings-on of the galaxy.
The Force fed me images of a peaceful world. I recognized it from our required galaxy cartography course. It was Felucia.
I felt at home on the planet. I could feel the humidity from the immense wildlife even as an astro-projection. The fungi and plants were larger on that planet than any other planet I'd seen. Birds flew above my head, sounding their startling yet docile cries. An occasional creature moved about the trees.
The Force did not speak as living creatures speak. It spoke through feelings and implanted thoughts. A nagging sensation in my gut warned me that the beauty of Felucia would not last. I had a bad feeling about it.
A foreign sound ripped me from my thoughts.
When I fell back into reality, it took a moment to remember that I was awaiting a call. I quickly moved to answer.
For only the third time in nearly two years, I saw the face of my best friend. "Achuta, Nysa."
"Achuta, Arrai." She responded.
I never realized how much I missed her until I saw her. I felt like I was staring into the face of my past, ready to embrace it and reminisce in all my memories. There had been no presence in my life quite like my best friend's.
"How have you been?" I asked, desperate to know the answer. I could not tell much through the holo, but I could see how much more relaxed she became when she saw me.
"Whao fa doth eniki, (If you don't mind,)" She asked. "Cheesba bidkana du Yikkuensm. Dobra dopo bai bidkana du boyoba. (I would like to speak Huttese. I would like to stay in practice.)"
I nodded. While the language was not the most beautiful or easy of languages, it was still my mother tongue, and I never objected to hearing it. Sometimes I would hear it and remember what I had left behind, but, now, I longed for such memories.
"Jee gee konpa uba. (I have missed you.)" I said. "Gahitlonh doth tee peee uahloba peee Jee kacay. (Coruscant is not as fun as I remember.)"
Nysa looked at me inquisitively. She always had trouble remembering the Huttese names for the planets.
"Coruscant," I said. "Uba cohai cua dan ai jotke tee-tocky. (You speak better than you did last time.)" I was always proud of her language progress.
"The Ryl helped." She admitted, obviously abandoning any attempt at Huttese. Her amused laugh filled to holo. "Most people speak that. It's helpful when translating."
I sighed dramatically. "Ryl wasn't difficult. I still stand by the fact that Basic was the most difficult to learn."
She shrugged. "It wasn't that hard for me."
"That's because you speak Corelian!" I rolled my eyes and smiled.
"Fine." Nysa gave in. "How is it?" After getting used to the Huttese and Ryl ways of speaking, one always used a more general form of speech.
