The Journey Begins

It's about six o'clock in the morning, when I get up and my faithful Mabari, Hellhound is already awake, chewing on an old bone he keeps in his bed. I get out of bed and put my studded leather armor on, grab my bow and quiver, and make my way down to the dining hall for some breakfast.

I'm greeted with a hefty and wonderful breakfast; eggs, potatoes, venison steaks, beef steaks, pork sausage, carrots and  a nice glass of my mother's homemade sweet tea. I chow down, because after breakfast, I'm going to get a couple hours of training in before I go and see my father.

After breakfast I head down to the barracks and start my training sessions with the guards. This way they can cover the training and do their job at the same time. A couple hours go by, during the training session and the guards were amazed and impressed by how far I've come since I was eight.

I make my way down to the Main Hall, where my father, the Teryn of Highever, has requested me to meet him. I get down to the Main Hall, and my father isn't alone, Arl Rendon Howe has graced us with his visit to Highever.

"Arl Howe, I didn't know you'd be visiting Highever. It's most definitely a pleasure to see you, sir." I say, entering the Main Hall.

"Ah, Lucien, you... Sure have changed quite a lot since I last seen you. Are you keeping to that training regimen of yours?" Arl Howe says, turning away from my father.

I nod, and as I get closer, something in my gut is telling me Arl Howe is not the man we once knew. I approach my father, and nudge him in the ribs.

"I need to speak to you privately, father." I whisper, so Howe can't hear me.

My father gives me a concerned look, but nods, and continues his conversation with Howe. Just then, a middle-aged man walks in and catches Howe's attention.

"Well, the Cousland house is very popular today. And what do we owe the pleasure of being in the presence of a Grey Warden?" Howe speaks.

"Ah, Duncan I presume." My father, says, greeting the man like he was an old friend.

I bow, to show respect, and Duncan does the same.

"Lucien, your brother and I will be heading for Ostagar sooner than expected. I need you to go talk to Fergus and let him know of the situation." My father says, turning his attention to me.

"Sir, if I may, there's still the matter of discussing the recruitment for the Grey Wardens." Duncan speaks up, before I have the chance to leave.

"Sir, did you say you were looking for recruits for the Grey Wardens?" I ask, the idea peaking my interest.

"I currently am, but I'd like to discuss that matter with your Father." Duncan replies.

A little disappointed, I do as my father asked and set off to find Fergus. I, however, search the main hall for whatever may be useful. I manage to find a few poultices and some salves. I then continue on to find my brother.
