"I don't know, probably because he was the one who found me?" you huffed, getting fed up of all their questions, you looked over at Nova who still wasn't buying it."I still feel bad" Jack said, making you turn your attention back to him, "What? Why?" you asked him, seeing the upset expression on his face. "If I hadn't left you on your own in the forest, this wouldn't have happened" he said, somehow managing to have an even sadder expression wipe across his face.
"Oh, Jack" you said, feeling really sorry for him "It's not your fault, it's mine for not going home after you left me" you said, trying to make him feel better.
"Yeah bu-" you cut him off "Yeah but nothing, we can sit here an argue 'if's and 'but's all night but by the end of the day it isn't going to change anything. All I'm glad about is that I'm still here and you're not planning my funeral right now" you lectured him, not sure whether this speech was helping or making things worse.
"All thanks to Mr. Fischbach" Nova said spitefully, you groaned as she brought him back up again. "Be moody about him all you want, but at least he actually came to visit me" you snapped, slowly getting off of the chair and slipping your arms into your crutches.
"You didn't see her while she was in the hospital?" Jack asked Nova in disbelief, you heard her stutter before she answered "No, I didn't, but I have my reasons", "What reason is possibly more important than your best friend being unconscious from a gunshot wound?" Jack shouted at Nova, you felt uncomfortable being in between them, it was like when your mum and dad argue and you just know they're going to ask you for your opinion at any moment.
"Well, the only reason you went to go and see her was because you l-" Nova started but Jack cut her off "I went to see her because she's my friend and I wanted to see if she was okay" he snapped back at her.
"Oh, if you knew the half of it" Nova muttered to herself but you heard, you gave her a 'Don't you dare' type of look and she closed her mouth again, Jack obviously hadn't heard what she'd said because he didn't answer, everything was quiet again.
You clopped your way down the hall and left the two of them in their awkward angry silence, you didn't want to hear anymore, some welcome you'd received.
When you reached your room you closed the door and plopped yourself into your desk chair and took out your phone, you saw that you'd already received a text from Mark.
Mark: How's everything? Is Nova looking after you?x
I suppose you could say that, she's here but so is Jack, they're arguing x :You
Mark: I don't trust him, I'm coming to get you x
I wouldn't if I were you x :You
Mark: Why?x
Nova's getting suspicious of you, she's asking loads of questions and I don't want to be interrogated anymore x:You
Mark: Okay, text or ring if you need me, you know I'll come running x
You heard a knock at your door which took your attention off of your phone, it was Nova, you instantly lost your smile.
"Jack's gone now" Nova said sounding like she was still irritated, "I'm not surprised" you commented, not meaning to sound as horrible as it came out.
"What happened with you and him? Why are you all chummy now?" she asked, seeming as though she was actually partially interested, "You're not fucking again are you?" she squealed, seeming excited.
"No, we just had a chat and sorted things out" you said, putting your phone on the desk beside you, "And what does 'sorted things out' mean?" she asked but before you could answer she asked another question "He said that you told him you like someone else, is that true?"
"Well, yeah I suppose" you mumbled, as you did your phone went off again, both you and Nova looked at it.
Mark: You left your over night bag in my car, do you want me to drop it round to you later while Nova's at her boyfriends?x
Fuck, not now Mark!
You quickly locked your phone but the damage had been done, Nova had read it.
"Who's Mark?" she asked, a devilish smile on her face. You took no time in coming up with a lie "Just a friend", you tried to act casual about it but you knew that adding 'Just' made it sound like he definitely wasn't 'just a friend'.
"Is that so?" she asked again, she moved her lips for a while as though she was thinking aloud without actually saying anything, then her eyes widened.
"What?" you asked her, panic setting in.
"Mr. M Fischbach" was all she said, "What?" you asked her again, hopefully it would throw her off the scent but when she had a determined look in her eye you knew it hadn't worked.
"Mr. Mark Fischbach, Mark Fischbach! That's his name isn't it, that's who your texting! That's who you're seeing instead of Jack!" when she finally stopped for air you didn't know what to say so you just repeated the same thing you had been saying this whole time, "What?".
"You know what? That's cold Y/N" she said, her face contorting into disgust "What?" you said again.
"It's one thing to drop a guy because you like someone else, but to drop him because you're seeing your teacher is just wrong" she said, her voice becoming more and more harsh.
"You're jumping to conclusions" you said, trying to calm her down, but she wasn't buying it "That explains why he was at the hospital with you, and why you're always staying behind after lesson" she sounded like a knock off Sherlock Holmes that was concluding a case.
"How would you know if I stay behind after lesson, you're never there, you're always at Jesse's!" you shouted at her, wrong move.
"You know he can be put in prison for this right?" she said with a hint of slyness to her voice "No he can't, at worst he'd lose his job" you snapped back but a white fear hit you as you realised what you had said.
"So I am right?" she smiled, triumphantly "No, I'm just saying that hypothetically, if something of the sort were to happen then the teacher would only lose their job, considering I'm an adult" you'd tried way too hard to cover up your mistake.
She started to exit your room but stopped to say "I wonder what Jack would do if he found out that you'd used him and dumped him for your teacher", you stared at her, looking her right in the eyes.
"I didn't use Jack" was all you could say "I'm pretty sure you did, I taught you that trick myself, give all your attention to one guy so the one you really want gets jealous" she looked out at the hallway then back at you "If he wasn't my friend, I'd be impressed".
"I'm your friend too" you muttered under your breath but apparently she heard "Since when did friend's abandon each other for a guy?" Nova hissed at you.
You felt an anger burning within you and before you could stop it you shouted at her "Since you got a boyfriend", she looked at you startled for a moment, "Ever since you got with Jesse you've completely deserted me, you're never home and you barely ever text me back anymore" you continued.
There was a calming silence.
"You're my best friend, you wouldn't do that to me" you said with a desperate tone to your voice. She just looked at you.
"Have you fucked him yet?" was all she asked, "That's hard to answer" you said back.
"That's all I needed to hear" she snapped at you before she left your room, you watched the door swing close.
All that night you were torn between telling Mark what had happened or preemptively texting Jack to explain everything, but you were unsure whether or not Nova would stick to her word, surely she wouldn't do something like that to her best friend.
"Best friend" you laughed to yourself, "I don't even recognise her anymore".
