It had been around two hours after your strange queasy spell and you weren't feeling any better. You sat on your bed, pillow acting as a guard between your spine and the hard concrete wall, with your laptop on your legs. You could hear the extractor fan whirling as it tried to cool itself down in the heat of your room.
Sighing, you typed out the remainder of your introduction and then rubbed your eyelids with your index finger and thumb. Why had you left your dissertation til the last minute?
Beside you were an array of notebooks, some were brightly coloured with pretty diagrams, and others were scruffily written notes that you had jotted down in lecture. Either Mark talked too fast or you just got distracted too often and couldn't keep up with the pace of the lecture.
The main book you gave all your attention was your dark blue TARDIS themed one, you had briefly drawn out a mind map plan of what you were going to write about and where. But you were still extremely stressed.
You picked up your laptop and placed it next to you on the bed, bum-shuffling your way across the fabric until your feet touched the carpet below. You grabbed your phone off of your desk and decided it was time for a snack, if your stomach could hold it.
Unlocking your phone, you saw that you had a missed call from Mark and a few texts from Nova. Nova... Jesus, you'd forgotten that she even existed. First you texted Mark to see what he wanted and then hesitantly opened the messages from Nova.
"Hey, I know we haven't talked in a while, but I hope you're doing okay"
"We can go out for coffee or something to catch up if you like?"
"Oh, and what are you doing your dissertation on?"
You shook your head as the words illuminating from your screen. How dare she?! After everything that you and her had been through, the way she treated you, and now she just wanted to pretend nothing had happened.
No way.
By the time you had read all the messages, you were standing in the middle of your kitchen just aimlessly scrolling through your phone. You had completely forgotten what you had come in here for. Oh yeah, snacks!
Pulling open your fridge door, you became disheartened when you weren't greeted by a stockpile of food. You had gotten too comfortable with being back at home for the holiday, you'd forgotten that you actually needed to buy food for it to appear in your fridge.
You sighed again, swinging the door closed until you heard the click. You chewed on your bottom lip, unsure of what do to, you could walk to the shop but that would take effort that you just didn't have right now.
Instead you settled for filling the kettle with water and letting it boil, tea would have to make do.
Out of habit you checked your phone again, seeing that Mark had replied:
"Still want help with that dissertation?"
You smiled at the words on your screen, he's remembered your earlier request. Typing out a quick "Yes please" you heard the kettle click to signify that it was ready. You poured the hot water on-top of the teabag you had already placed in there and let it stew.
Your phone went off again:
"I'll be around yours in 5 :)"
You replied with a brief "Thank you, you're a life saver" and went to lock your phone, you stopped before clicking the lock button and tapped back onto the chat "Bring snacks" you added. Before you knew it your phone was ringing and Mark was outside, you made your way downstairs and let him in.
As soon as he saw you, a huge grin spread across his face "I've missed you" he said, pulling you into a tight hug. He squeezed you a bit too tightly and you felt your stomach tense, nausea took over you. Mark must have felt you recoil in the hug because he was looking at you with a confused expression.
"What's up?" He asked, you shook your head dismissively and muttered "Nothing, I'm fine", giving him a weak smile. "Are you sure?" he insisted, but you didn't want to worry him so you nodded and gave him a weak smile.
"Hey, I'm not stupid. I know you're not okay, tell me" he said, his eyes full of concern and worry for you. "I just feel sick, honestly, I'm okay" you reassured him, rubbing his forearm.
"Now, are we going to stand in this hall way all night, or are you gunna help me with this dissertation?" you joked, trying to change the subject.
