What is Love

February 14th.

Every time I hear somebody say that date I get just a little depressed. I go from smiling and energetic to frowning and upset.

It's not because I'm lonely or anything. I have Jack and the guys with me all the time, but I think I'm depressed because I see so many people in love but I can't find that guy that I would fall in love with.

What is love anyway. I've thought about this question multiple times, never really coming up with a definition. Love could be anything. Could have any definition. Could have multiple definitions.

Maybe that's why I'm not able to decide when I love someone, because I don't know what love is.

I look towards my laptop sitting on my desk. I contemplate looking up the redefinition of love for a second, then get up and open my laptop.

I type in 'what is the definition of being inlove' and get

"Love isn't blind or deaf or dumb. In fact it will see more than it will tell.

It is going beyond yourself and stretching who you are for someone else.

Being in love entails seeing someone as you wish they were:

To love them is to see who they really are and still care for them.

Love is usually used in a romantic sense when you meet your significant other and transforming a normal relationship into a deeper one without further interest in others.

Love means that you trust the person would do anything for the person, know that person is with you through thick and thin, isn't ashamed to be with you and would treat you right.

I sat at my laptop, thinking about everything I just read. I had always assumed that love had all to do with the feelings you have toward someone in an intimate way but in reality, it's how you feel about someone in anyway.

I had never realized before but as I was reading I discovered that yeah, Jack and I were best friends, but that doesn't mean I can't fall in love with him. I think I blocked out my feelings for him because I didn't want to ruin our friendship.

I now know that trying to cover the fact that I am in love with him is what has been making me feel depressed.

I closed my laptop and stood up, making my way to the door. I pulled it open and ran down the hallways through my house until I reached the front door. When I stepped foot on the ground I began running again. I could hear my feet roughly colliding with the hard pavement after every step.

When I was about a block away from his house I stopped running and tried to catch my breath. I didn't want to seem like a creep right before I told my best friend that I love him.

I started walking once I had regained oxygen in my lungs. I was anything but a runner so the one and a half miles I just ran really killed me.

As I was walking I looked down at the necklace I had on. I started fiddling with the charm hanging from it when I ran into what felt like a brick wall. No of coarse that was an exaggeration because I had only run into a person that had been walking down the street and not paying attention much like myself. I landed on the sidewalk, hiring my arm rather hard.

"I'm my, are you okay?" The person asked.

"Yeah I'm fine." I replied, getting up and brushing myself off.

"I'm so sorry." The person who I now discovered was Jack's neighbor said.

"It's okay, I wasn't paying attention." I told him.

"Haven't I seen you before?" The guy asked.

"You might have, I'm Jack Brewer's friend." I smiled.

"Oh, yeah, I have seen you a few times." The guy said, and as much as I wanted to run past him and to Jack's house I didn't. I did what any polite person would do and sat there pretending to listen to what he was saying.

"I'm Derek" He said, holding his hand out for me to shake.

"I'm Kim" I replied, shaking his hand.

"So are you and Jack....you know......dateing?" Derek asked.

"Ummm, no,....we're just friends." I told him, shyly.

"Oh cool, so, do you want to maybe..... I don't know.....go on a date sometime?" Derek asked.

"Well, you seem like a nice guy and all, but, we just met and I have feelings for someone else." I told him in the most sincere way I could.

"I understand. So I'll see you around.....hopefully." Derek said. I think he was actually asking me a question when he said 'I'll see you around' but gave up when I didn't respond.

"See ya." I said with a quick wave and then continued on my way to Jack's house which was now only 3 or 4 houses down.

When I reached his door I knocked and was greeted by Jack's mother. She told me that Jack was in his room and then walked back to the kitchen. I made my way to Jack's Jack's room but didn't knock on the door because I heard him singing and playing the guitar.

When the singing came to a halt I knocked on the door. He responded fairly quickly, shouting come in. When I walked in I saw him sitting on his bed, his guitar on the floor next to him.

"Hey Kim!" Jack nearly shouted with a big goody smile.

"Hey Jack." I responded with a little less enthusiasm but a huge smile. After a minute of silence I spoke up again. "I uh....wanted to talk to you about something." I said, sitting down next to him.

"What is it?" Jack asked.

"Well, uh....I don't exactly know how to say this so I'm just gonna be blunt. I really, really like you." I said. "I think I might even love you." I said. At some point I stood up so that I was facing him and he did the same.

He stood there just looking at me with a shocked face before finally responding.

"Good because I KNOW I love you." Jack said, emphasizing 'know'.

"Really?" I asked. Jack nodded, put his hands around my waist and pulled me close. We both leans in and when our lips met it felt like fireworks were exploding inside of me.

Once we pulled away Jack tugged at my hand. "I want to show you something." Jack said, pulling me over to his desk, where his laptop sat. He opens the laptop and show me a page he was on. It was the same exact page I was looking at when I was searching about 'Love'.

"I guess great minded do think alike." I said with a smile.

Needless to say, I spent the night a Jack's house that night. When I woke up I was cuddled up next to Jack.

We were headed to karate practice when we ran into Derek.

"Hey Jack." Derek said.

"Hey Derek, this is my girlfriend Kim." Jack replied.

"We've met befo- wait did you say girlfriend?" Derek started but then cut himself off.

"Yep." Jack responded.

"How is that possible, I asked her out yesterday and she told me that she was interested in someone else." Derek stammered.

"Yeah, he was the guy I was talking about." I interjected.

"Ohhhh that makes sense." Derek said.
