(A/N- this chapter is dedicated to Lilmissried because she helpd me out with the idea for the engagment ring/necklace. Also, the ring is suppose to be hanging on a silver chain. Just so people know, that is the actually crest from the move/books.  And now onto the story)

1803

"Tavia, Darling" Carlisle called as he came in the front door. He had just finished his last year at the local college to get his MD. He was having his graduation ceremony saturday night. If he stayed in the shade he would be fine and not be noticed as anything other then human, though in the town they were in, it wasn't usually sunny so he shouldn't have any issues. He hung his coat up in the hallway closet. After that he went about looking for her, though he should have looking the one place she was usually in.

"I'm in the kitchen" Tavia replied, he smiled when he heard where her voice was coming from. Of course, it was the kitchen, even though she was part vampire, she loved to eat whenever she could. When Carlisle came in, she was sitting at the simple kitchen table, eating some pasta. He had learned that because she was part human, she was able to consume human food without issue. He couldn't eat it. So he let her, and normally she didn't eat it in front of him, but she didn't know when he was going to be home today. "I'm sorry, I'm almost done"

"It is alright, I completely understand, I would eat as much as I could if i could still eat it and it didn't disagree with me" Carlisle waved his hand dismissively. As a vampire the food would make him physically sick, not something he was to inclined to have happen "I'm actually home rather early.  Class finished early today and guess what?"

"What?" Tavia picked up her now empty plate and put it in the sink. She moved over to where he was standing and put her arms around his neck. She looked up at him as he was a good four or five inches taller then her. She did notice, which she had from time to time, that his eyes had gone from being red as a sign of a new born vampire, to the golden color of a vampire who is past his first year of violence and rage. She was glad, though he had kept his calm through that time, she had felt that if he had gone crazy and completely bloodlust, he would have been able to kill her. He would have been much stronger, not only because it was his first year, but also because he was full vampire, as she was not.

"I am officially a doctor and its all thanks to you" Carlisle wrapped his arms around her waist and smiled down at her. He was very excited that his dream was finally coming true and it had been with her help that it was possible. She had helped him pay for school and one day he was planning on repay her. "well, starting on saturday, that's the graduation. Then I'll be a MD. So i was thinking in celebration and as my way of saying thank you to the most generous person i have ever met in my lifetime... maybe we could go some where special, take a trip, leave for a while, i know you own the house, but maybe we could sell it and just travel for a while"

"Where? And don't play any games with me, Carlisle, you know I hate those." She asked, excitement can be seen on her face, both from him graduating and also because they never really got to travel, her job as a doctor and his schooling, and not to mention his training as a vampire had gotten in the way, but that didn't matter to her. She was happy because she was with Carlisle. He knew, though, that there was only one place in the world that she wanted to go. She hoped that was where he was going to say.

"I was thinking" Carlisle paused as he pretended to think hard about it. He did exactly what she told him not to do, he was going to play a game with her. She made a small growl noise at him. She hated it when he played games like that, but he was so good at them, and she did like to be challenged."... how about Italy"

"Really?" Tavia pulled away from him to study his face, she was good at reading people. She wanted to make sure he wasn't lying to her, then again he has never lied to her and she doubted he would start now. "That would be amazing"

"I know how much you've been wanting to go there, so I thought we could do that now" Carlisle smile broadly at her. She smiled back, she loved the way he smiled. He touched her face softly before leaning over and giving her a kiss. She kissed him back before pulling away. "Oh... and I was thinking while we were there"

"Yeah" Tavia turned to clean the dishes that were in the sink, so she didn't see him take something out of his pocket. In fact she was so busy she didn't see him or hear him come up behind her.

"Tavia" Carlisle moved close to her, wrapping his arms around her from behind. She jumped startled a little bit, a feat that wasn't easy to accomplish. Not many people had been able to make her jump. He held the small box in front of her. He opened it."Maybe while we're there, we could get married"

"Oh.... Carlisle" Tavia looked in the box, there was a ring on chain, she looked at it carefully and saw that his family crest on it. He took it out of the box and put it around her neck and clipped the chain together at the back of his neck. She moved her hair out of his way before letting it fall over her shoulder. The necklace with the ring on it fell between her collar bone. She turned to face him putting her arms around his neck. She leaned her mouth close to his ear. "of course I'll marry you"

Saturday came fast and the graduation ceremony was quick. Carlisle got his degree and they had already began to pack their things. Though they had decided just to take the necessities. Tavia had told him she had enough money that they could just buy anything they needed. At over two hundred years old. she had saved quite a bit of money. They took a ship to Europe. the most luxurious one they could find. He had the best time of his life as they made their way to Italy. As they sat in their room on the ship, Carlisle would watch Tavia from time to time under the guise of reading a book. He loved to watch her. She was also reading a book in their bed, She wore a long white nightgown while still wore his suit. She was ready for bed, he didn't need to be. She yawned and he smiled at her. She looked up at him from the book she was reading. She moved it to the night stand before she said anything to him.

"Carlisle" Tavia motioned him over. He came and lay down next to her on the bed. She rested her head again his chest. "I just want you to know... I love you" There was silence in the room for a moment. Carlisle had never head her say it, even though they had been together for a long time.

"I love you too" Carlisle finally responded after getting over the initial shock. When they first starting courting, as it was called then, she had warned him, she wasn't going to be easy to be with. She wasn't an emotional person, I love yous and hugs and kisses weren't going to be an everyday occurrence, and she had been true to her word, so when she did say it, it still came as a surprise. He smiled as he held her close. He didn't have to sleep, but sometimes she did, and tonight was one of those nights. He didn't mind though. He liked lying in the bed with her and hold her, so that's exactly what he did as they made their way to Italy on the luxury ship.
