KAT

7:00 AM

My annoying alarm clock sounded off, telling me that, yes, today was the beginning of my first day at a new school. I turned it off, rolling onto my side lazily. Mondays were definitely not my favorite days. After ten minutes of contemplating whether or not to actually get out of bed, my mom barged into my room, my little sister tumbling in after her. I quickly closed my eyes, pretending to sleep.

"Carino?"she tapped my shoulder lightly, "It's time for school."

translation: dear

I rolled over, ignoring her. Maybe she'd go away after a while. I heard the satisfying click of the door, and I smiled.

Well, she did leave, but she came back.

Splash!

A bowl of icy cold water slushed around as my sister squealed and giggled at my expense. I was surprised, and if it wasn't for the fact that it was my mother who did it, I would've already pounced.

"Levantate ahora!" She scolded, "It's the first day of school."

translation: get up now!

I groaned internally, and rolled out of bed, my mother's candid action pushing me forward. The cold floor didn't help in my situation, and it made me even more irritable. Nonetheless, I plodded to the bathroom for a warm shower. After calming myself down some, I got out to get dressed. My outfit consisted of a black crop top, a matching black and white flannel shirt, black skinny jeans, and a pair of beautifully black combat boots. To top it off, a beanie the color of my soul covered my damp hair. You guessed it, the hat was black.

I went downstairs for breakfast, avoiding my tantalizing baby sister. Just when I was about to go back to my room, there was a knock on the door. I opened it, thanking God for Calum Thomas Hood.

"You look like a wet dog." He made his caustic comment about my hair and facial expression. I smirked, a comeback at the tip of my tongue in an instant. We weren't the type of best friends to tease each other mercilessly, but he started it.

"And you look Asian, but let's not talk about that."

He rolled his eyes, and pushed pass me into my own home. That lil pooface.

"Good Morning, Mrs. Lopez." He beamed innocently at my mom, my little sister, Mia, climbing her at into his arms. Typical.

"Hello there, Mia." She giggled, a bright smile covering the majority of her face. That was Calum in a nutshell. Everyone loves him, including myself, but that's beside the point.

If I didn't leave soon, I'd be late for school, and that's not something I want on the first day. So, I ran back to my room, brushed my teeth, and put on some black lipstick and mascara. Grabbing my backpack, I rushed back downstairs to the kitchen where Calum and my mom were talking about what she was cooking for dinner. He was always asking her to pack a to-go plate for him.

I hated to interrupt, but I did anyways, "Calum, let's go."

My mom turned around to the sink to start on the dirty dishes. He nodded, letting Mia hop out of his arms.

"Bye mom." Calum and I said at the same time. I nudged him with my elbow the second we stepped out the door. Here we go again...

"Dude, how many times do I have to tell you?" I scolded him, "My mom is not your mom."

"She doesn't have a problem with it

"She doesn't have a problem with it." He paused as I rolled my eyes for the six hundredth time this morning, "And, she's cool... Unlike you."

"Whatever." I gave up arguing with him, deciding to change the subject instead, "We still up for some exploring this afternoon?"

"Of course." He smiled briefly before turning the ignition and driving away.

We were planning to explore the old school building down the street from my school. It was kinda crappy, but why not? We were both curious.

"And, maybe after, we could go back to your house so I an woo your mom." He laughed, parking the car in the school's parking lot. If only I could shove my middle finger up his beautifully sculpted ass.

"I'm so glad I'm adopted."
