"C'mon, Cal. Hurry up." I rushed into the car, slamming the door shut, "I don't want to go in when the sun sets."
He stayed silent, and climbed into the driver's seat. We were on our way to the old building, and as crazy as it seems, I was excited. I was scared, but fear was outweighed by excitement.
When we arrived, flashlights hooked to our waists, I traded in my flannel for a plain black hoodie. I double checked my pocket just in case this date didn't go as planned. I looked over at my best friend, who had already started crossing the small space between us and the building. He seemed undisturbed by the caution tape.
"Aren't you the least bit scared?" I asked, walking briskly to catch up with him. He slowed down once we were a few feet away, stopping for just a brief second to glance at me.
"Weren't you excited?" He stopped completely, turning and walking pass me to the side of the building. I was excited, but that didn't mean I was scared.
"Let's go in through here." He slipped the flashlight off his belt hoop, "The front door is barred up."
He flipped the flashlight around to break what fragile glass was left in the dated windows. I had a bad feeling about this. A random crackhead could pop up, and that's something I want to be prepared for.
"It'll be fun." He shone the light into the dimly lit building, crouching down a bit to have a better look, "You could get some cool Instagram pictures in here."
Maybe he was right, but something still didn't feel right. I went against my better judgement, and decided to go in.
"Okay." I nodded to myself as Calum climbed in, waiting for me to follow. He stuck his hand out to help me in. I stepped in carefully, watching the broken pieces of glass sticking out the window pane with cautious eyes. The last thing I want to do is hurt myself.
Once I was safely inside, I put my flashlight on, and triple checked for my phone, which-thankfully- was there.
"Could you stop?" Calum turned to me, a hint of annoyance in his voice, "There's no need to freak out. It's just a-"
"And now let the game begin!" A loud, booming voice resonated through the whole room, making my ears twitch. And, it was at this time I realized something was up. It was as if the ground was shaking. Calum and I looked at each other, an expression of pure fear on both of our faces.
Almost immediately, we both turned around to go back to the window. But, there was one small problem.
The window wasn't there anymore. I stared at the dirty, red splattered wall that replaced the window as it taunted me.
"Welcome to the School of Nightmares!" The crazy voice was back, "And so, the nightmare starts!"
