Kat

I started to panic, fear rising in my stomach. Who was that and what happened to the window? I knew we shouldn't have came.Calum and I just stood there kind of frozen, and unlike our minds, our bodies were completely still. I wasn't one to crack under fear or pressure, but right then and there, I was about to go off.

"Oh my gosh." I looked around the room, eyeing the messy features. The floor was littered with old papers and books, and there were also shelves; but those seemed to be rotten and dilapidated. I was getting the idea that this room was some sort of library, "We need to leave."

My eyes landed on an old wooden door in the far corner of the room. Maybe this could lead to the way out. I rushed to it, and Calum followed. Hesitantly, I opened it, not knowing what was on the other side.

Thankfully, it was just a long hallway with a few doors on each side. I stayed where I was thinking to myself, and hoping that Calum would know what to do; but, upon looking at my best friend's clueless countenance, I realized he really didn't know what to do.

"Let me start by explaining the game." That loud voice from before ruptured my ear drums- again. His words came out so smoothly, like it was an everyday thing to scare people like this, "Basically, we're trying to kill you."

He couldn't have been more blunt. I looked around frantically, trying to find where the voice was coming from. My head was spinning, and I wasn't even sure if I was still standing. All I knew was that I wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.

Calum suddenly put his hand on my shoulder, and turned me around to face him, "Kat, calm down, and breathe

Calum suddenly put his hand on my shoulder, and turned me around to face him, "Kat, calm down, and breathe."

I tried to 'calm down and breathe', but my brain just wouldn't let me. What if this dude actually does kill us? What if this isn't just a joke?

"But!" The creeper boomed, making me whimper, "We'll have some fun first."

I suddenly felt like throwing up listening to the loud, maniacal laughter that echoed all around us. I was scared out of my mind. Tears ran down my burning cheeks, and dripped of my chin.

"Katalaya, look at me." Calum calling me by my full first name was never something I liked, but I didn't mind this time as it took my attention away from my fear, "Stop crying. It'll be okay."

This sounded grand coming from the guy who pulled me in here, but I'm not going to play the blame game here. I came in here on my own.

He hugged me for a brief second before pulling away.

"What happened to your hat?"

I shrugged. That wasn't important at the moment, but he was bringing it up anyway.

"Any who, I'll explain the rules now." I shuddered, disgust taking over all my features. Whoever the hell this person was, he needs help.

"Sick bastard." I mumbled, not expecting anyone to hear. Much to my surprise, someone did hear.

"Sick, yes. Bastard, no." The voice said casually, which meant he could hear everything I was saying. This place is rigged. Who knows what else the building can do?

"Oh, so you can hear me?" I shouted, "What should we call you? What's your name?"

I wanted to add in a few choice words, but I wasn't sure of what this guy could do. Calum looked at me, scared and confused by my sudden courage. Although tears were still streaming down my face, my voice was firm.

"For now," said our captor, "My name is kitten."I chuckled humorlessly. I mean, how could I not? This must be some kind of sick joke.

"What the actual hell?" Calum voiced from beside me. Am I supposed to take this guy seriously? His hands were balled into fists, and from what little I could see due to the dim lighting, his jaw was clenched.

"Now, before you so rudely interrupted me," Kitten said it like it was the most gruesome of crimes, "I was stating the rules, so let me get back to that."

I ran a hand through my already messy hair, searching for a way out. Much to my dismay, there were no windows (only doors), and we were bound to go through one.

"Rule #1. You run." He paused dramatically, "Rule #2. We kill."

Then, another wild coracle of cackling surrounded us, but this time it wasn't just kitten. He and his little group of friends were enjoying themselves, even before this 'nightmare' or 'game' begins.

And, we could do nothing but wait.

=============================================================

Hi there. I just have a little announcement.

I've already finished writing this short story and I'm currently working on a sequel.

That'll probably be out soon, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested. The name of the second short story is Heartbreak For Two, and it features the same characters. Obviously, it's a romance short story, following the days (and probable months) after this event.
