Jason: One Day I'll Know

She was acting slightly suspicious. When she started screaming in her sleep I had gotten scared. When she woke up she looked so terrified, and when I questioned her she wouldn't meet my eyes.

I would have to find out eventually what happened. 

I watched her from the corner of my eye as she talked with my friends, pushing her food around. 

"Kitten you should probably actually eat instead of just pushing your food around." She jumped hearing my voice next to her.

"I-I am." Frowning, I realize she still won't look me in the eyes.

She eats a bite before going back to just talking with the others. I shrug it off and focus back on my own food.

We had a lot of work ahead of us. 

After I led Piper to classes with everyone else, I left to go to the meeting.

Along the way to the board room, I came across my mother. 

"Hello Jason, how are you doing? We haven't had much chance to talk lately." She smiled at me sweetly and I remembered how much I used to love talking to my mother.

"Yeah, sorry mother, I've been really busy lately. I'll make sure to catch up with you soon."

"I just wanted you to know, Jason, That your father and I talked, and you will not be marrying for the country. You will get to marry for love, because we want you to grow up happy."

I stop in surprise. We had never talked about marriage, but I had just assumed that I would marry for the Country. It was my duty, I didn't do love. But now, with this chance open I was worried. I know my mother loved me, but this was a big deal. 

"Um, thanks mom, I need to go off to the meeting, I'll catch up later, bye." I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and hurried off to the meeting.  

I enter the room and take my seat near the end of the table, by my father. Everyone quiets down and the meeting starts. They talk about the rebel attacks and the event coming up with how 2 apprentices will go with the Black Robed Mages to the borders and learn about it more. I plan to be one of them, and I hope to make Piper the other. 

The meeting adjourns and I head back to pick up Piper. 

"Hey Kitten." Piper jumps when I catch her by surprise.

"Um hi Jar-Jason. Hey Jason. Uh, w-whats up?" I catch her mishap and mentally make a note of it.

"I'm just here to escort you to lunch, relax." She glares and follows me to the lunch room. We sit with my friends again and she starts talking with them. 

After lunch I let her know we are going to practice outside, she looks excited and we head down to the forest.

"Hey, are you doing ok? You seem to be shaky since you woke up this morning." As we walk down to the forest, I carefully watch her reaction.

"Uh, I'm um, I'm fine. You did great by the way, although you could have probably beat me much faster." She laughs nervously and continues walking, picking up pace slightly. I pick up my speed as well to keep pace with her. I look at her face and see regret in her eyes, along with something like... sadness? Her hand goes to her necklace and she starts mess with it.

Sorry really busy with personal stuff lately, I'm looking for some ideas so if you have an opinion feel free to share. I'll try to update more but this one probably isn't fully finished yet either.
