Though his tone was calm, something flashed across his face as he spoke – an expression Jessica couldn't pin down. It was gone in a moment as Xavier smiled and gestured towards the king-sized bed while wrapping his arm around Jessica's shoulder.

"Now, why don't we take a rest? I see that you are tired. I am tired. We are both tired. That's why we are on a bad mood."

"Why are you putting your hand on my shoulder?" Jessica tried to push his arm off her shoulder and distance herself from him.

Xavier didn't budge a step. "That's a silly question. Of course it is because I am a normal man with red blood." He grinned.

"I don't understand what you are getting at." Jessica managed to free herself. She scooted towards a chair near the dressing table.

That was always the problem with Xavier. One moment, he looked so serious.
Then, the next moment, he was being his usual playful self with that stupid gigantic smile of his.

"I mean, you are a woman, I am a man. You are my wife and I am your husband. We are alone in the same room. What do you expect us to do?" His voice was coolly amused.

"What if I knock you unconscious right now?" Jessica looked at Xavier, her brown eyes expressionless.

The smile left Xavier' face. "Auwww, come on, Jessie! We are married now. It won't change the past."

"But it'll make the present so much nicer."

Xavier' face twitched. She sounded serious. He knew he shouldn't try her patience. One wrong move, he could find himself sleeping outside the room.

Xavier faked a laugh. "Don't be mad, Jessie. I'm just kidding. Anyway, let's just go to sleep."

Xavier was about to hop onto the bed again when he realized he was not moving. Glancing sideway, Jessica was pulling his shirt, preventing him from moving.

"Hello, mister! Where are you going?"

"Err... sleep?"

"Where are you supposed to sleep?"

"I suppose it to be on the bed?"

"So, where am I supposed to sleep?"

"I suppose it to be on the same bed?"

"So, we are supposed to sleep on the same bed together?"

"I suppose it's true?"

"I wonder if you are seeking for an early death."

Xavier gulped. "So, where am I supposed to sleep?"

"Anywhere, except the bed. The bed is mine. I'm keeping it to myself. And I don't want to sleep anywhere closer to you. I'm going to have a nightmare with you around." Her tone was final.

"Jessie..." Xavier said sadly, "Are you mad at me?"

It was Jessica's turn to fake a laugh. "What are you saying? Even though I was supposed to act as a fake girlfriend just for one day... Even if I was forced into a marriage with an airhead that lacks consideration on the very same day... Now, why would I be angry?" Her voice was thorn with sarcasms.

Awkward smile plastered Xavier' face. 'As expected. She is angry.'

"Then, why don't you sleep on this side," Xavier pointed towards the right side, "And I sleep on that side," he pointed towards the left side. "This bed is huge. There would be no problem!"

Jessica's mouth split into a smile. "Didn't you hear me that I don't want to sleep anywhere closer to you? Really. I wonder what's the use of this long, big ears of yours. Are they just there for decoration? Do you want me to cut those defective ears using a sharp blade, fry-cook and feed them to hungry, homeless cats?" Despite the smile, her voice was cold.

"Aaah! Don't say those cruel, heartless words with a smile! It's scary!" Xavier said, frightened. He could almost see a dark aura surrounding Jessica as she said those.

"So, why don't you move away from the bed? And stay at least one metre away from me," Jessica said, and this time she sounded even colder.
So cold that Xavier swore he could almost be frozen in the warm, heated room.

No choice, Xavier reluctantly took a pillow and went to the sofa. He lay down quietly, yet his eyes was still looking hopefully at Jessica, praying she would retracted her order and gave him the permission to sleep on the bed too.
However, Jessica ignored him and got herself ready to lie down on the comfortable bed.

"Jessie... It's our first night---"

Pufff!

A pillow come flying, smashing him on the face. That was the cue for him to shut up before his body would end up in bruises next. 'Be patient, Xavier. After all, it is only the first night.
At least, I'm still in the room, not outside the room.' Comforting himself with those words, he closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep. Frankly, today was a tiring day...
