When she was able to speak and wiped her eyes, she stood back a step from Chief Boden. "Um...I don't know if you just have the men and women here pull their weight. And do chores around here. But I'd like to give back. For everything you all do. And I'd like to do...janitorial work. I can do that. I will make this place spotless." She said. "I do, actually, have them all just do things like that. But you don't have a job?" He asked her. "No, sir. I...live with a caretaker and she provides for me. But I've been looking for a job and...no one wants to hire without a diploma. But I never went to school and..." She stopped as he put his hand up. "Say no more. You can work here for us." He said and put his hand out. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" She said and shook his hand. "You won't regret it." She said. "I have a feeling I won't." He said. She smiled big. "Oh! I should...get the rest of the tour." She said. "As you were." He said and walked around his desk. She left his office with Otis. "This is so exciting! We're gonna see you every day now!" Otis said happily. He wrapped his arms around her and she held him then let go. He wasn't. She put her hands on his ribs. "Okay." She said and gently pushed him back. "I think I'll go tell one of the Lieutenant's now." She said and started to leave him. "Great! I'll come with!" He said and began to follow. She looked back at him then ahead and kept walking. She made her way back to the main area and went to the far end of the long table by Casey. "Lieutenant? Maybe I speak to you somewhere alone for just a moment?" She asked. "Sure." He said and rose to his feet. "Come with me." He said and headed to a side door. She followed him and they left outside. Cruz looked at Otis.
"Man..." Cruz said and had a moment of contemplating helping Otis out or let him screw himself over. "Keep doing what you're doing! I think it's going great!" Cruz said. Otis gave him a look and walked into the kitchen. Hermann chuckled and shook his head then continued with his crosswords. "Neither of you are going to get with that girl. Trust me." Mouch said. "You think you know her type?" Cruz asked. "Yeah! She's a sweet girl. She hold us in high regards. That means she seeks bravery in a man. A valiant gentleman. A guy who is brave enough to run into a burning building and NOT afraid to open a door for a woman. She should be treated with the same respect as she gives us. So I suggest, Otis, that you lay off from being so desperate. She can sense you from a mile away and has now, run away from you." Mouch said. "No she didn't. She just wanted to tell the Lieutenant that she got a job here." He said. They all looked at him. "Oops." Otis said. "Great work, boyfriend!" Cruz said sarcastically. Brett and Dawson smiled. Otis huffed. "Is Otis scaring you?" Matt asked her. "A little. But I can tell the guy is harmless. And I can fight. At least I hope I can if it would come to it." She said. "I do too." Matt admitted. "But, I wanted to speak to you, a little about...Otis? What kind of a name is that?" She asked. "It's a nickname we all gave him. His real name is Brian." Matt said. "Ah. Gotcha. But! Also, I got a job here! I'll be giving back." She said. "Really?! That's great! What will you be doing? Exactly?" Matt asked. "Janitorial. I know how to clean. I was raised, cleaning. It's all I pretty much know. Oh! And how to pay for stuff. Like, shop. Buy groceries and things. So even if you guys need that, I can help." She said. "That sounds great." Matt said and gave her arm a gentle pat. "And hey, if you ever need some advice on anything, help with something, we're always available. Unless if we've run off for an emergency. And, the girls will also help you out. I know that for sure." He said. "Thanks Lieutenant." She said. "Ah, you can call me Matt." He said and went back inside with her, opening the door for her to go in first.
She walked in and they all said they were happy to have her work there. "It's gonna be great! And we'll try not to make the place too messy." Cruz promised. She smiled. "It'll be nice to have another female around here." Gabby said. "Too much testosterone goes on in here." Sylvie added. Gabby smiled. River joined them. "River Presley." She introduced and shook Gabby's hand. "Gabriella Dawson. Everyone calls me Gabby." She said. River shook Sylvie's hand. "Sylvie Brett." She introduced. River gave a nod. "Hey, are you single?" Sylvie asked her. Cruz was watching the conversation from the couch. Otis was sitting at the long table and looked intrigued. "Uh....yes. Yeah, I am." River admitted. "So am I!" Sylvie said. "Single sisters! Yay!" Sylvie cheered. River giggled. Cruz expressed he loved the sound and Mouch rolled his eyes. Otis expressed he would fight Cruz. Matt shook his head. Hermann was grinning, keeping an eye on the two. "How about you?" River asked Gabby. "Oh I'm married." She replied. "To Matt Casey." She added. River looked at Matt and he nodded then she looked back to Gabby. She leaned forward. "You are one lucky woman to snatch that right up." She said quietly and they twiddled fingers then sat back smiling.."What was that about?" Matt asked. "Nothing!" Gabby and River replied in unison then they laughed with Sylvie. "Look at that. Secrets between friends already." Matt said. River sighed. "This is so good for me. Girls. Really. I um...I grew up, not really....having any friends. People came and went. No one really stuck and I didn't really connect with anyone but this...this feels different. It feels great." She said. "What about those girls you were hanging out with when you did the dare?" Sylvie asked. "Oh, they were people I met at a bar. They kind of became my friends. Because they were around my age. Younger than me, actually. I should've known better." She said. "Hey, we all make mistakes sometimes. But we get through it." Sylvie encouraged. "What is your age? By the way?" Gabby asked. "Guess!" River said happily. "You look nineteen to be honest." Gabby said. She smiled and looked down then back up. "Twenty three." Sylvie said. She looked to the boys at the long table. "Oh. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say....twenty five?" Matt guessed. "Twenty six!" Otis said confidently. "Twenty two." Hermann said. She looked at Mouch and Cruz. "Please be in your twenties." Cruz said. Mouch hit him with a magazine. "Twenty eight." Mouch said. "He's closest." She said and pointed her thumb at Mouch. "What?!" They exclaimed. "Don't tell me you're thirty!" Gabby said and was smiling. "I'm twenty nine." She said. "No way!" Sylvie said. "You're the same age as me! Right on, girl!" Sylvie said and gave her a high five. "Wow." Cruz said. "Oh hey! Did Chief Boden tell you when you start the job?" Gabby asked. "No he didn't! I'll go ask right now!" She said and left her seat and hurried off. "Twenty nine and single. I get dibs." Cruz said. "We're gonna have the cutest and most sweetest little mixed babies..." Cruz said. "Oh my God..." Gabby sighed. "No way Josè." Otis cut in. "WE, are making those mixed babies." He said while pointing at himself. "Guys come on. Show some dignity here. She's new, she's young still, and she's scared of you Otis. So you're done." Matt said. Hermann laughed. "I knew it!" He said with a smile.
