CHAPTER 11: THE PUNISHMENT
"It's not what you think!" I said quickly.
"What are we supposed to think?" My mom questioned. I took a deep breath I've never really gotten in trouble before.
"That I just felt like not going to first-- but that's not what happened?!" I really need to cut to the chase.
"Then what really happened?" It was my dad who asked. I sighed.
"Austin picked me up instead of Josh and Emily." The look on my dad's face told me that he didn't trust him, but I continued. "When I got out of the car I saw Emily crying. Her boyfriend had just broken up with her on the phone and she looked horrible. So I did the only thing a sensible friend would do; I took her to the bathroom to get cleaned up. By the time we were done with that, it was the end of first period." I explained myself and my mom ran over and hugged me.
"Thank God! I thought you were doing drugs of something." I laughed.
"Why do parents always assume its drugs or alcohol when something goes wrong with a teenager?" I rolled my eyes when my dad shrugged.
"This calls for a celebration! We should go out for dinner!" My dad says.
"Because I'm not doing drugs...?" I have weird parents.
"No silly! Well I mean I guess... But you finally did something fun!" Yup the previous statement stands.
"Yes because cleaning up my friend is soooo much fun!" I said sarcastically.
"Would you just shut up and get in the car, I don't feel like cooking!" My mom said pushing me out the door.
When we get to the restaurant I see that it is my favorite Italian place. That's weird, we only go here on special occasions.
"We're not only going out because I skipped class. What aren't you telling me?" They looked at each other then looked at me. My mom was the one to speak up.
"It's Lucy's birthday!" I should have known, can't go out to dinner without the Parkers. Oddly enough, I'm not mad.
"Why didn't you tell me! I would have gotten her a present!" My mom smiled and my dad looked relieved that I wasn't going to whine about it.
"We just got her a gift card, but your name is on it too," my mom smiled.
Oh well, I guess that will do. She's a cute little girl and honestly I love her like my little sister. I can't believe I forgot her birthday.
When we get inside I see the Parkers sitting at a table. We walk over and I see that there are two other girls at the table. That's weird.
As we get closer I see Mrs. Parker wave and I can see the two faces a little better. One is Jess, Lucy's best friend and the other is...
Oh hell no.
The queen of all cows is not at my little girl's birthday dinner. What the fudgesickles is she doing here?
I put a fake smile on my face and sit down next to Lucy.
"Happy Birthday!" I say leaning over to give her a hug.
"Thank you Kris!" I smile she is the only one who calls me that.
"Hi Mrs. and Mr. Parker, Austin-- Brittany." I barely look at the last two people. It's a good thing they're at the other end of the table.
"Hello dear, I have known you your whole life. How many times do I have to tell up to call us Miranda and Greg!" She smiled.
"Sorry Miranda," I corrected myself.
