Austin’s POV
I woke up, her hands still resting on my chest. I carefully moved them onto a nearby pillow and then slid over to the edge of the bed.
“Austin” she mumbled groggily. It hadn’t taken her long to realize I was no longer lying next to her. She sat up and wrapped her arms around me from behind, “Good morning” she whispered before kissing me on the cheek.
I stood, freeing myself from her arms, “Time to go.”
She didn’t move, instead she sat there pouting. I waited a little longer, slowly growing more and more impatient. Eventually I couldn’t stand it any longer. I grabbed all of her belongings off the floor and threw them in her direction.
“I’m serious, get out now.”
She let out a little laugh, “You haven’t changed a bit Mahone.”
“Bye Heather.” I said sternly.
She finally took the hint to leave. She dressed and gathered her things into the purse I had thrown at her. Before she walked out she turned to me, “You’re even better than you were last time, nice to see you haven’t lost your touch.”
And with that she was gone.
This is how it’s been for the past few nights. It was a different girl every night: Zoey, Melanie, Sydney, Paulina, Heather, and whoever else. They were all the same, they were all distractions.
Ever since JJ had given his demands along with an ultimatum I couldn’t help but slip back into my old habits. Skyler wasn’t an option anymore. Not that I’m even sure she ever was. But I managed to get over it, I moved on.
My phone buzzed, it was JJ calling me.
“Hello?” I said after hitting accept.
“Are you done with your girl of the night?”
“Yeah, she’s gone.”
I could hear JJ chuckling to himself, “Good. Now get your ass back to work.”
The line went dead before I could say anything more.
I let out a deep breath before I dressed for the day’s work. I had settled into a routine, each day was the exact same. I started the day off by kicking out whatever girl that ended up staying the night, I went to do whatever work JJ left for me, and then I would invite another distraction over to spend the night. This was my life now.
Skyler’s POV
It’s been another week and still no word from Austin. Our last encounter had been confusing to say the least. He had said I would see him again. Part of me hoped I would, but clearly that didn’t happen. It was probably for the best. He was with JJ now. I had to move on from Austin, and so I did despite all my confusion.
My parents had ungrounded me early. This would be the first weekend I would be allowed out since the whole missing incident. My mom seemed grateful to unground me. In fact she encouraged me to go out with friends. Her exact words to me were, “ Now that you aren’t grounded go out with your friends, I forbid you from sitting in your room by yourself this entire weekend.”
I had no problem finding something to do Friday night. Lexi was having another party. I actually told my parents about this one, I mean by now they knew I partied so what was the point of sneaking around. Still, I was surprised when they said I could go. Their only condition was that I stay with my friends and actually come home when I’m supposed to.
