Two Weeks Later

It wasn’t easy going back home; I had been “missing” for one day. My parents had called the police when Lexi, Bri, and Kenzie came to them asking where I was. They had thought I was with them, so when they found out I wasn’t they panicked. My friends ended up telling them about Dylan’s party and the situation with Colton.

When I had arrived home Monday morning they were both happy and angry to see me. Happy to know I was safe, but angry at me for lying about Dylan’s party, losing my phone, and sneaking around. To cover for my kidnapping Austin had told me to use him as an excuse.

And that’s exactly what I had done, I told not only my parents but the police that I started to feel sick during the party and I had went for a walk to get some air. While I was walking I said that Austin had spotted me on the side of the road and he offered to drive me back home, but I had insisted I go back to his house. To explain why I was gone all Sunday, I told my parents that I had still been feeling very sick and I didn’t want to come home like that.

Both my parents and the police bought it. My parents were still furious though. I was grounded for the rest of the month: No going out, no hanging out with friends, no car. The only time I was being allowed out was to go to school. It could have been worse; I just took it for what it was and didn’t argue.

It’s already been two weeks and I’ve settled into my grounded life. In some ways I didn’t mind it. Being grounded made it easier to avoid answering questions about that night.

Today was just another Monday morning. I got up, got dressed, put some makeup on, ate breakfast, and then let Danny drive me to school. Everything was going smoothly until lunch.

I sat with Lexi, Bri, and Kenzie as always. I had given them the same explanation about what had happened at Dylan’s as I had my parents. Although they were surprised I went with Austin they didn’t question it. They were just happy I was alright and they let it go.

Today however Colton set his tray down next to mine and plopped down into the seat next to me.

“Skyler, I’ve missed you. You ignoring me?” he said interrupting the conversation already going on between us girls.

“Colton, you do know I’m grounded right?”  I said laughing.

“Well no I didn’t, but I did hear where you disappeared to at Dylan’s.”

“Yeah and…?

I wasn’t sure where he was going with this. It was two weeks ago, why did he wait until today to bring it up. Everyone else had moved on. And I would be lying if I said it didn’t irritate me that he brought it up.

“Austin Mahone? Really Skyler of all people.” Colton didn’t bother to hide his disgust for him, I could hear it in his voice and see it in his facial expression.

“Yes Colton, Austin of all people.” I snapped back at him.

Before Colton could answer Kenzie cut in, “Leave it alone Colton.”

“Stay out of it Mackenzie. None of you have said anything, so I will.”

“Don’t you dare speak for us. Unlike you we’re just happy Skye’s safe.” said Lexi.

I was in no mood for this at all and if Colton had a problem I wanted him to just spit it out already, “Cut the shit Colton. I really don’t care if you have a problem with Austin. He was just helping me out. There’s nothing wrong with that.” And with that the lunch bell rang to dismiss us back to class.

I got up and left without giving Colton the chance to catch up with me. I went to my locker and grabbed my things for Spanish, and that’s when I remembered, Colton was in my Spanish class. There was no way I was about to continue our argument in class. I threw my books back in my locker, grabbed my bag and headed down the hallway searching for the one person I knew would get me out of this. Found him.
