Chapter 6 When the day came, I was escorted to the same room as before where I met Number 3 and 6. Number 1 and 7 walked in shortly after me. Number 1 nodded at me and said, "Okay, so this is a political assassination, a general who is allegedly helping the rebels. He needs to die, he has a better law team than our program, so he will most likely get off scot-free. When we are done, the whole place is coming down" He looked at me, "Now we need to go over call signs, no names during a mission. Mine is Freeze, Number 3 is Meat, Number 7 is Conch, and Number 6 is Dream. What do you want?" He looked me over and waited for the answer. I thought for a moment and then said, "How about, Augur?" Number 1 nodded, "Sounds good to me. From now on, only refer to each other by Call sign. Let's move, we are Oscar Mike in two minutes." I nodded and gathered my stuff, grabbing one of the masks from the table, as I stepped out into the night air, I took a deep breath. I followed Dream out to the Osprey. An Osprey look like a plane had a baby with a helicopter, it had wings but at the end of each wing was helicopter blades. They barely use it anymore, but it is good when you are trying to impersonate the remnants of the American military. I climbed in the back and took a seat next to Dream. The back never closed as we flew through the night I watched the compound disappear from behind us. They were playing some song over the speakers, something about dreams and dying, and the world being mad. I really wasn't paying attention. Eventually, we slowed down and started setting down. We turned as we were dropping and I could see another complex in the distance. We stopped about 100 feet from the ground. The speakers suddenly crackled, "Drop zone reached. Prepare for jump." I looked at Number 7, or rather Conch, and then at Freeze, Number 1. They were strapping some chutes to their equipment. I looked back out and then realized we were sitting above a cliff, and that the complex was around 100 stories tall. "Where is the extraction point?" Freeze shouted towards the front of the plane. "You tell me." The pilot shouted back shrugging. "Do we have support?" Freeze asked. "Yeah, new equipment." The pilot handed him some device that he threw to me. "Just activate it and run. It should take out anything under it." Freeze nodded and walked out of the plane. Just like that, no stopping just jumped 100 feet to the ground. I glanced out and saw a chute open out and close again when he reached the ground. I looked at Dream, as she tossed me a backpack. I glanced around and she said something about a parachute, "Wait, I'm going to jump down? Awesome!" Who says sarcasm doesn't work? Dream nodded, "Yep! Now go!" With that she shoved me out of the plane and hurtling towards Earth. I panicked quickly finding the chute and pulling it. I felt the fall jar to a near halt as I slowly billowed towards the ground. I looked up and saw Dream jump and pull her chute, then Conch, and then Meat. Once we were all on the ground we gathered around. Freeze started talking, "Okay, so here is us, and here is the base. We need to take out the target, and grab an object, we don't know what it looks like, or how much it weighs. We do know it has these symbols on it." He showed us some strange looking symbols. "The only other thing we know is it is called, The Saracen. Let's move, it is a little over a mile to the base, and we need to get there now." We all nodded and started to move pulling on weapons and packs. I took note of the weapons we were using. Dream had a Sniper rifle of some sort with a silencer attached. Meat had a shotgun and a submachine gun, both silenced, and Conch had an assault rifle with a silencer attached. "I take it we are going to try to be quiet?" I asked sarcastically. Picking up a shotgun and a submachine gun for myself, both silenced as well. Freeze, chuckled and nodded. He grabbed a submachine gun, and stated. "Avoid using pistols from our base. All the weapons we have a ex- US military. We want them blamed for this attack, not us. Dream, you will be providing sniper support from the outside. Auger, you are going to be playing leader on this attack. Apparently a lieutenant, in the US military has a quarrel with this man killing his family in cold blood, with an ice pick, he also happens to match your description almost perfectly. So you get the honor of killing him violently with an ice pick. Also, make it sound like it is something personal." He handed me an ice pick with a wooden handle inside a wooden sheath. "That is the secondary objective, The Saracen takes first priority." I nodded, "Awesome, sounds like it is right up my alley." I felt a small headache twinge in the back of my head, but I ignored it. Something sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. "By the way," I started as I grabbed my pack and started heading up the ridge towards the building. "Where are we?" I asked as we reached the top. "Some where in what used to be the South Eastern United States." Freeze stated flatly. "That is all any of us need to know." I nodded we reached the top of the hill it overlooked a flat plane leading up to the actual base. Dream set up her rifle and a small stand with some ammo. She uncovered a small vehicle meant for one or two at a time. "Once I've cleared the main entrance and I think you can do it on your own I will come meet you guys in the main room." She laid out and started watching the building through the scope. "I'm ready when you are." Freeze nodded and we took off at a fast march towards the building. We cleared the open space in around 8 minutes. As we reached the outer perimeter we paused crouching in some brush near a hole in the fence. The com-links crackled to life as Dream contacted us. "You have two men making rounds in 10 minute intervals, then there are two more men guarding the door they have one dog. Once they are out of the picture I will meet you guys there." She suddenly cut out and went silent. Not even five seconds went by when I heard a bullet whistle overhead and watched the two soldiers making rounds collapse in a bloody heap. Meat and Conch darted out and dragged the bodies back into the brush. "Great, three more left." I heard another bullet whistle by and saw one of the door guards fall to the ground. The dog took off towards us, but the man rushed to check his buddy. Another bullet whizzed by and the other guard dropped over his buddy. The dog continued to rush us, everything was moving in slow motion for me as the dog jumped. It landed on me and stated going for my throat. I had the ice pick out before it landed and started stabbing it immediately. Grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and repeatedly stabbing it in the stomach. It whined a few times, but quickly fell silent. "Wow." Conch stared at me. "Nice job." He dragged the dog back towards the other two bodies. "Let's go." We ran to the door, moved the bodies, and waited for Dream. We heard her before we saw her, the small motorcycle was making its fair share of noise. She stepped off the bike and made it drive off into the distance. "Now that that's settled, let's go kill a general." She flipped her hair over her shoulder and placed a helmet on. I looked as the others all put a helmet on as well. I reached into my pack and found a similar one to theirs. I placed it on my head and heard a small click and whir as a visor came down and started analyzing the surroundings. I quickly turned it off and let the visor slide back up. "Alright team, stack on me, breach and clear, we have the target." We stacked up next to the door, and moved quietly into the building. We moved quickly abandoning the stacked formation and moving in separate directions checking room after room. We moved back together. "Dream, Conch and I will move to kill the General. Meat and Freeze, you two keep searching for The Saracen. Go!" We moved our separate ways into alternate elevators. Conch, Dream, and I crowded into one elevator and pressed the button for the tenth floor. We waited calmly in the silence the only noise was the simple and calm elevator music. "So, why do we want The Saracen?" I asked openly. "Because, it could help end the rebellion, and help the Immortals program increase in productivity, and capability." Dream responded swaying slightly to the music. "Cool." Conch replied for me. "I wasn't the only one who didn't know." The elevator opened and we calmly walked out. I had the combat shotgun ready and leveled it at a soldier behind a desk I put two slugs in him and he didn't move. "Let's go." I said as I unsheathed the ice pick and moved with a determination down the hall. A guard stepped out of a room took one look at me and didn't have time to react before I plunged the ice pick into his chest. He gasped for a breath and I pulled it out and planted it back into his head. He was dead before he hit the ground. My face never changed as I stalked down the hall. I still carried the shotgun in my left hand. Another guard came out of a hall to my left and had barely a second to react before I pasted his blood onto the wall with a few slugs. I kept moving killing anything in my way, Conch and Dream just followed me making sure nothing could get me from behind. I reached the General's quarters blood had stained the uniform I was wearing. I kicked in the door killed, the single guard in there, dropped the shotgun, and then looked dead at the General, I felt my head throb with pain when I looked him in the face, I knew him somehow, I couldn't place it. I walked over to him ripping the sheets off him, he cowered away whimpering for mercy. He shouted at me, "You died. Demon. You can't be here, I killed you, no, please. Don't kill me please. I beg of you! I'll give you anything!" "Give me my family, raise them from the dead!" I started stabbing, thrusting the point into him multiple times. I don't remember anymore, I just remember my head throbbing and blood spattering everywhere. I finished and wrote on the wall with his blood. 'The Ghost comes for the blood of the evil. None can escape my grasp.' I left the pick sticking into his chest, and stalked out of the room. Dream and Conch following behind. Conch chuckled as Dream said, "Rather melodramatic wasn't that? What with the writing on the wall." "Really? I thought it was perfect for the moment." I laughed as we stepped into the elevator. "So where is Freeze and Meat at?" Dream smiled, "They are working on getting our escape ready." "AKA fighting through the whole bloody army." Conch said "They found the Saracen?" I asked quickly. "Yes three floors up." She smiled as we reached the elevators We all looked at the buttons on the elevator, "They actually called it the 13th floor? What's up with that?" "Doesn't matter. Press it." Dream said bored. "Superstition is a bunch off bull crap anyway." "Whatever." Conch nervously pressed the button. The elevator started moving. "See, what did I tell you." Suddenly, the elevator jerked to a halt midway between the twelfth and thirteenth floor. "Dang it!" She said as Conch practically screamed. "Why did you have to say that!?" He said quickly. I simply caught my balance and got out some explosives. "Here I'll bust us out." I set up the aimed explosives at the top of the door right where the opening to floor 13 should be. "Stand back, directed or not it's going to be loud." We crowded to the opposite side of the spacious elevator. I pressed the detention switch and watched the rock surrounding the door explode into a hole barely big enough for us to squeeze through. I helped Dream and Conch up and they pulled me up through as we came to an enormous door. We began looking around for a key pad or something, but there was none. Just a solid metal door that stood impenetrable in our way. I took a few steps toward it, suddenly this light appears, I jump back, ready to kill, and notice what it is. "A holo-lock!" Dream says in awe. "I haven't seen one before." I nod and walk towards it. Putting my hands into the image, it conforms and allows me to attempt to unlock it. "Digital scan, complete holo-image, no physical connections. Amazing." I breath quickly working the lock. "How long will it take to unlock it?" She asked watching the elevators. "Normal person, half an hour to four hours." I say beginning to play with the lock. "Give me five to ten minutes." I kept playing with the locks finding the correct sequence. "Got it." I smile as the holo-image fades and the doors open. I stand up and start walking in, trailed by Dream and Conch. The room has hundreds of things in it; weapons, maps, stuff I don't know what to call, and even some machines that appear to fly. Almost all of it is foreign to me. Conch walks over and finds a large weapon. The bottom half had a giant curved blade that ended in a spike. "Suits you." Dream and I say in unison. We all jump as we hear the elevators ding and a group of soldiers step out. Some gruff curses are spat as they stumble in on us looking at their weapons. Conch shrugs and turns the gun on them. I watched his hand pull the trigger, felt the boom, stumbled back and looked up to see he was blown back a few steps. Have you ever been near a huge gun, right as it's fired? You feel the shock wave come off it. This must have been a 40 mm cannon. Cause not only was shock wave audible and visible, but I could feel it. I watched the shot fly towards the group of men, and suddenly a not quite as loud boom went off, and the shell seemed to explode and the group of men fell blood flying from their wounds. "Beehive rounds!" Conch shouted triumphantly. He quickly re-cocked the bolt. He grabbed a flak vest that had approximately 20 of the shells on it, and what appeared to be a clip for them as well. "So it is a bolt action grenade launcher, fantastic!" He smiled maniacally and moved toward the door. "You two find the Saracen, I will cover you." Dream and I smiled and began searching the room, gunfire erupting and quickly silencing from the hall. Eventually, I found the Saracen, it was large enough that I couldn't quite hold it in my arms but probably weighed close to three hundred pounds. I moved toward the elevators with it, pushing it along, but was halted at the door by the site of the wall half missing and the elevator cars snapped and at the ground floor. "Now what?!" I yelled pushing it back into the room. We looked out the window and saw a window washing platform. "To the roof, I suppose." "We will need a counter balance. Something that will help it reach the roof, cause I don't feel like waiting and extreme time. To ride all the way up." Dream spoke rapidly as if nervous. The idea hit all three of us at the same time. Dream and I looked at Conch. "How much do you think that gun weighs?" I asked. "I don't know, maybe a hundred fifty pounds?" He said nervously. "And you? How much do you weigh?" Dream said quickly moving around behind him cutting off the exit. "About two fifty." He said, then it hit him. "NO! NO WAY! NO HOW! I'M NOT JUMPING OFF THIS BUILDING!" "Too bad I'm in charge here." She said with a sinister smile.
