"did you see what was on tv last night?"

alex bursts into homeroom, a mess of flying papers and excited brown locks. jack looks up from his desk, casting away a doodle he was halfheartedly working on. "what?"

"blink-182! they were on mtv!"alex is beaming, looking rather similar to an excited puppy. "they were playing all the small things!"

in an instant, jack is as excited as his best friend. "i'm so mad i missed that! i've been looking towards that for ages, dammit."

"i was going to call you," alex admits, "but my phone died and i was too lazy to charge it."

jack smirks slightly, "should've just gone and bought a new one. that's what us rich people do, you know, or we have our servants charge our phones for is. what are you, poor?"

he gets a playful punch on the arm from that. "not all of us are millionaires, jack."

"oh, sorry, i forgot, my parents said i can't be around someone poor— might rub off on me." jack pretends to recoil away from him, and they both dissolve into laughter. in reality, they're both average middle-class, but the jokes of jack's dad being a billionaire oil tycoon from the middle east still remain.

zack walks in next, his fluffy hair a bedhead. "looks like someone overslept again," alex calls out, and zack frowns at him, setting his binder down beside him.

"i'm not late, am i?" he retorts, just as the bell rings. alex half-smirks at him. "that doesn't prove anything, lex."

"you weren't on the bus, though," alex says finally, triumphantly, and zack sighs deeply.

"okay, alex," he answers, and sits down. jack grins at alex and kicks him lightly, mouthing something about rian not being here today.

(zack and rian have been almost-dating for at least half the year at this point... vehemently denying they're dating, and yet why do they look so guilty when someone walks in on them alone?)

rubbing his tired eyes, alex slumps down in the seat and smiles at jack. ever since he figured out about zack and rian (no matter how much they deny it) a little voice in the back of his head has been begging him to do the same with jack.

actually, his little crush goes further back than that. it's been around for years, just lingering, in alex's stolen glances and fluttering heart.

of course, he keeps that hidden. they've been friends for nearly their whole lives. besides, jack wouldn't like him back, not in a million years.

right?
