talk about awkward.
the movie they see is irrelevant; just know that it's lisa's choice. a shitty chick flick he'd have enjoyed under any other circumstance. what? alex loves shitty films. but this one sucks particularly badly.
it comes with the awkwardness of that constant debate— does he put his arm around her shoulders? do they go in for the kiss? he staves the latter decision off for another day, but does pull a smooth move in sliding his arm around her shoulders at one point.
lisa looks at him and giggles, then leans against him. god, talk about fucking awkward. if alex wasn't firmly set in his gayness before, he sure was now. nothing against lisa, but that girl can talk.
that's only confirmed at the dinner. he pays— of course, he's a gentleman, isn't he?— and truthfully, it's a waste of money. lisa chatters on and on, smiling at him from across the table. she could be cute, alex thinks distractedly, if it weren't for...
"that was a nice date," she admits to him when he drives her home, lingering in the car before she leaves. she's smiling at him from the passenger seat.
"i, uh," alex stammers. "i'm glad you liked it." he scratches his head and stares at the dashboard for a moment, his mind blanking out.
lisa smiles shyly and leans closer. "did you?"
ah, abort mission. "yeah," alex says, and then the thought pops into his head that maybe if he plays along, it'll help. so he leans in slightly too, lets himself blush, and adds: "i had a lot of fun, lisa."
a giggle from lisa, a small movement from both of them, and they're kissing.
kissing a girl is so much different than a boy... no tiny hints of stubble, a sense of fragility. alex is almost scared he'll break her if he kisses too hard.
there's no lightning in his chest when their lips meet, no sparks flying at the touch of their mouths. just two teenage kids, sitting in a car, having a kiss that to all the world is entirely unimportant.
alex breaks it first, pulling away. "i, ah, i gotta get home. the time..." he's glancing at the car clock. 9:40.
"right," lisa agrees, looking slightly surprised. she fixes her hair and alex comes to an ultimatum. she's not that bad. he can date her, if it gets jack off his mind. and see, it worked— that's the first time he's thought of jack all evening.
huh. maybe it can work.
