Today was the day!
I kept telling myself that it's just the first race and I don't have to worry so much but I was about to run my first race!..on the tartan tracks! ...In front of my entire which included Theo! I didn't want to make a fool of myself in front of him?!.. No!
I started warming up 30 mins before my race. I could see all my competitors and it only made me more nervous. I hadn't eaten anything since morning cause I didn't want to feel heavy during my race. I was used to not eating before races so that wasn't much of a problem.
All of my team mates started wishing me good luck and gave me some quick tips. I was surprise to see that Theo didn't say a word, he didn't even wish me luck! Theo was just worried about how sunny it was getting. He was rude and I didn't want to focus on how he has to sit in the 'scorching' heat.
I heard my first call on the speakers which were put up on all four sides of the stadium so that we could be well informed if there were any changes in the schedule.
"100 metres sprint first call for the girls" my heart started beating rapidly. I could write a song and jam it with my heart beat noise and that wouldn't sound less than a drum solo. I started walking to the area where we had to collect our chest numbers and submit our attendance.
My race was about to start in less than 10 minutes! I was walking towards the reporting area just when a realised a hand twisting around me, it was Theo.
"Hey, I'm not going to wish you luck cause I know you'll nail it anyway. Chill out, no pressure. I love you"
He dropped me at the reporting area and made sure I wasn't stressed. I was wrong about Theo. He cares, a lot!I waved him goodbye as they took us inside the ground. I was nervous but I wanted to do it! I could see all my team members at the finish line eagerly waiting for my race to start
I put my spikes on and removed my jacket. I was wearing a pink skimmer inside of that. I stretched my back and legs for the last minute warm up.
I no longer felt the tension, I just wanted to do it!
"On your mark" all the athletes sat down
"Set"
"Baamm" went the gun shotI started running. I could not hear anything. All I could see was the end line. I forced my feet to run as fast as possible. I couldn't risk this shot!
I ended first! I had qualified for the finals! I was very happy! The juries noted my chest number and was really satisfied that I had given all that I could in my first race and this was how I wanted to run in my finals too.
Tartan tracks are so good to run on!!! It's as if you're running on clouds! Oh my god! They were awesome!
I returned to my team. They were all super smiley and it felt really good when they started congratulating me. They made me sit down and started exercising my calf muscles so they don't get stiff.
Theo came and sat next to me "Told you babe"
I smiled at him. I sucked at responding to compliments and sweet names, he just called me babe, what else could I possibly do?
Theo gave me my jacket and some juice"Kia your timing is the second best."
"Who's the first one?"
"It's that girl" he pointed to her. I remember she won in the heat after mine. I didn't pay much attention then but I think I should now. "Meghan, it's not much of a difference. I know my champ will do it"
Theo had so much faith on me. I loved the fact that someone believed in me so much.We started walking to my room so I could get some rest
"Now you have 5 days for fun!" Said Theo with a goofy look
"You too! All your races are on the last day right?
Theo nodded his head " please take me to my room if I faint of exertion" he tittered
"Sure, but until then we'll be fun buddies"
"Deal. Yaay!!!"
