Anna walks into the house and slowly close the door. "Anna, is that you?"
Anna walked into the kitchen and sat down her backpack on a nearby barstool. "Yes, it is."
"How was the rest of your day?"
"It was good," Anna answered with a smile, she totally forgot about Xavier's uncle and how he made the starting of the day worse. Her mother came behind her and fixed the oxygen mask that sat on her nose. "No one made fun of you? You know, while you're carrying this oxygen tank around?"
Anna shook her head, she was happy that no one made fun of her for that, when she first went out into public carry the tank around. People stopped and stared, they must've thought that it was actually drugs.
"I had to push your chemo to tomorrow, I know it's going to be cutting into your school day but you know that you need it."
Anna sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night with chest pains, the pains always end up having her in the ER during the rest of the night to have doctors watch her. She would try to scream for help but her parents would run into her room with an extra tank and mask. She would be too weak to walk out to the car so her father would have to carry her.
There was a knock at the front door, Anna slowly gets up and grabs the tank and slings it on her shoulder. She opens the door revealing her father standing there. "Dad, why didn't you come in?"
"I got locked out. I don't have a key since we changed the locks."
"Oh." He walks in, greeting Anna's mother with a kiss "Are you feeling alright, Anna? You look pale."
"Let's take her to get checked out." Anna's mother said, guiding Anna to the car. Anna didn't even get to have a say in what they were doing. It's just cancer that's ruling the whole body of her and she has to fight it.
At the hospital, Xavier came in the door. Running up to the front desk and asking where his girlfriend was taken, they told her east wing room 208.
"Anna, you are very dehydrated. We're going to give you some fluids through an I.V. and you can hang out here." Her parents were relieved when it was just dehydration. They always worry too much. "Is she okay?" Xavier said as he ran into the room.
"Yes I am, I just didn't drink enough water."
He sighed and sat on the end of the bed, he mouthed good and grabbed a small journal out of his sweatshirt pocket and a pencil from his other pocket. He's a drawer, he sketches things like crazy. There pretty amazing artwork if you asked me.
"I'm going to sketch you right now, Anna."
Her mother and father told Anna that they were going down to the cafeteria to get some food. They would be back in a few hours. "Ok then." Anna smiled at Xavier watching him slowly draw a circle on the pad of paper. The doctor came in finally to start the IV. Anna sat there and watched tv while the nurse got the IV in.
It was starting to become darker out as Anna was finally released from the hospital. Xavier decided to take her out on a date since they never been on a date since they first started going out.
"Where are we going?"
"You will see, and you will be very impressed by my skills." Anna laughed and grinned as they walked up the path in the forest and end up near a wide open area, grass everywhere and just a picnic basket lying on a blanket on the ground.
"Oh my god, Xavier!!"
"See, I told you. I have skills." He guided her over to the blanket and they both sat down. "Look at the stars, Anna!!" A shooting star passed by and Anna made a wish.
"Thank you for tonight Xavier. It's truly been amazing!!"
Xavier smiled and swept some of Anna's hair from her eyes, leaned in and kissed her. Peace, that's all she needs.
"Thanks for being the one."
For a couple of minutes, it was silent, they just looked up at the sky and watched the stars. "What will happen once I'm gone?"
"Well, everyone will miss you for one and for two, it will break me. Not being about to see my girl. I know that you won't be able to marry me or have kids. That's the saddest part of having cancer. But I know that I'll have you right beside me."
Anna nodded and got up, she felt something in her chest but ignored it. Since it didn't really bother her that much. "Where are you going?"
"Home. It's just that it's almost two in the morning and I want to sleep, my mother is taking us to the doctor tomorrow so I want to be in good position."
"That's funny, the last time that you were at the doctor was the first time I went with to watch you get chemo. That was kind of stressful for me because all I was dealing with was the fact that my parts were fighting constantly and then your fighting for your life."
"Why is that funny? Your parents seemed like they were fine the last time that I visited, and they were joking around with everyone and they were getting along and-"
Xavier got up and stepped in front of Anna, blocking her from leaving the forest. "Stop running from it. Stop running from the warrior that you are. I know you, stop it." He slaps her gently across the cheek.
Anna put her hand up to her cheek and stood there with her mouth open. "You little bitch. You're going to try to abuse me now?"
Xavier tried to grab her arm to yank her back to him as she walked away but she slapped his arm. "Babe!! That wasn't what I was going to do. Come back, please!! Anna Drew White, please come back!!"
Rain started to fall, Anna didn't have a jacket to cover her head so she just kept on running back home. When she finally reached her house she struggles to open the door, knocking on the door hoping that her parents are still up.
"What? Honey, what happened?!?" Her father opened the door and guided her inside. "Alyssa!! Come down here please!!" Her mother ran down the steps and quickly throws her arms around Anna. "Where were you?"
"In the forest with Xavier, we were talking and then when I went to leave to come back he slapped me!!"
Her father's jaw dropped, anger rose in his body. "I'm going to get him, and I'm going to report him to the police. No one should touch my little girl."
Anna grabbed his shoulder and looked into his eyes. "It's okay dad, I'm fine. We have to worry about more important things than my boyfriend."
"No, it's not. I know that your cancer is more important but someone just laid their hands on you the way they shouldn't of. I need to protect my little girl." Alyssa stepped in front of Brad.
"Brad, listen to your daughter. She's worried about her health and that's the only thing we should be worrying about right now. Maybe Xavier got too stressed about Anna's cancer and worrying about what would happen if she's gone."
Brad ignored Alyssa and Anna and stormed out the door. Taking the car keys with him.
"He's your father."
"Right."
