Alex woke to the sound of faint whispering voices down the stairs, he had always been a light sleeper. He turned to his beside table and pressed the home button on his phone. The light from his phone lit up his whole rooms and he squeezed his eyes shut as the light blinded him slightly. As he opened them again he checked the time. It was 2:40 in the morning. Who could possibly be up and downstairs at this time with his dad back to work teaching at Mckinnley and his mum recording in the studio all day tomorrow. He perched on the edge of his bed finding his slippers before pulling them on. He walked to his door and pulled his dressing gown off the hook and put it on before opening the door and tip toeing down stairs, you know incase it was a murderer.
As he descended down the staircase he could make out a voice.. a familiar voice...
"Skye?" He said out loud, before listening again.
"Okay sweetie, you have blankets, a pillow, you know where everything is if you need it" he heard his mum say.
"Night skyzers" his dad said
He heard the light switch flick and footsteps coming towards the staircase.
After a second he walked down a few steps before him mum and dad turned the corner.
"Is Skye here?" He asked curiously.
"Yeah, she's staying the night" he's dad smiled at him. "I'm taking her home in the morning before school. She's knackered so let her sleep"
His mum and dad walked past him and made their way to their bed. Alex wanted to go see Skye, was she okay? Why was she here? But he thought about what his dad had said, she must have been knackered. So he turned round, sleepily climbed the stairs and went back to bed.

Alex woke again, this time to the sound of his bedroom door opening. It was Skye, she had the pink blanket that his mum had gave her to keep her warm hung over her shoulders. She nearly disappeared under the huge layer, it wasn't until you saw Skye like this that you realised how small she really was. Maybe small wasn't the right word, petite was a better way of describing it.
As Skye shut Alex's bedroom door the light coming into his room vanished, as did Skye. She was no longer visible in the dark.
"Boo" Skye said rather quietly so she never woke anyone up however, it was still loud enough to give Alex a fright. And like a girl, he screamed.
"Not funny" he said with a tired husky voice.
He moved over allowing Skye to sit on the bed beside him. She got comfy and lay down. Sharing part of Alex's pillow.
"So..." he said, a curious tone in his voice as if he'd expected Skye to share with him the exciting story about why she was at his house so early without any promp.
Skye made a sighing sounds and groaned. "It's a long story.."
"We have time" Alex said with a laugh.
And with that Skye climbed under the covers. Alex lay his arm across the bed allowing Skye to nessel into his body and rest her head in the crook of his neck. She began telling him the story about how she had fell out with her dad's and stormed out.
-------------------------------------------------------"Come on Alex, your' gonna be late sunshine" Mercedes entered the room and stopped, spotting that her son was not alone in his bed. "Skye?" She walked over to the bed "hunny, are you okay?"
Alex woke up first. "Oh, hey mum" he said, still with his eyes shut from sleepiness. He realised that him and Skye were still cuddling in the position they had fell asleep in.
"Is she okay?" His mum asked him sounding concerned.
"Yeah she's fine, she only came up a few hours ago"
Mercedes leaned down and moved some of Skye's curls out of her face resting her hand on Skye's cheek. Skye nestled her face into Mercedes hand, her eyes began to flutter as she woke up. "Skye" Mercedes said gently. "Hunny, Sam's downstairs. He's ready to give you a lift home, are you ready to leave?" Skye nodded. "Okay. Alex, up and at um" then Mercedes left.
Alex rubbed his eyes. Just then his little sister Bentley came into the room, she ran over to the bed and jumped on top of both of them. "Mornin" she said as she hugged her brother. "Why you here Skye?" She asked.
"I came for a sleepover" Skye said, Not wanting to share the details with a 5 year old who could do without all the drama. "Em excuse me lil' miss" Skye looked at Bentley with a raised eyebrow. "Where's my hug?" Bentley giggled and wrapped her arms around Skye's neck.
"Okay spud" Alex said. Mum will get mad if you don't go get ready for school" Bentley gave Skye one last squeeze before climbing off of the bed and running out of the door giggling. "How you feeling about going home?" Alex turned to Skye.
"Well... I'd rather not be" Skye frowned. "So yeah, that good".
Alex nudged her smiling, trying to cheer up his best friend. Skye smiled back.
"I'll see you in school" Skye said as she got up and grabbed her phone from the bedside table. "Love you" she said as she headed for the door.
"Me you more" Alex replied as he sat up ready to start his day.
