To hear a voice speak up unannounced does not frighten me one bit. However, it's hearing an unfamiliar voice that causes curiosity to roam my mind and I cannot help but ask, "Who is there?"

No answer.

"I know I don't hear voices for a living, so come out wherever you are."

I have no idea where my sudden voluble personality is springing from but for now, it will have to do.

"I could try, but that's merely impossible." The voice speaks up again.

I try to pinpoint the direction it's coming from, but find it rather odd as the sound seems to travel equally throughout the entire room.

"Why's it impossible?" I ask the mysterious voice while looking around, trying to locate him. "I'm surprised that you're speaking," he says. I can hear that he's trying to change the subject, but I'm not going to allow that. "Why's it impossible? Where are you?" I continue to question, wanting unconcealed replies.

Where on earth is the freak hiding?

"Why do you ignore your nurse? She has done nothing wrong to you." If he could stop changing the subject, that would be splendid. I refuse to keep a mental list of unanswered questions.

"You're quite intrusive. I'll only answer you if you answer me. Or else I'll ignore you too... Besides, this is rather creepy." I whisper the last part as I continue to scan the room.

"Fine... And you can stop looking around. You won't find me," he says bluntly. I wouldn't be surprised if an eyeroll accompanied such a neutral tone.

"The reason being?"

"Because I'm not physically there."

What the hell...

My eyes grow in confusion as a frown warps its way onto my face. "Then where are you?" I question as my eyes continue to drag across the room while my head stays completely still.

"Look up... No not to the ceiling. To the wall... The other wall... Finally some eye contact."

Don't tell me that-... I silently ponder while my eyes travel to where he demands it to. I knew it!... I yell internally as my eyes latch onto the camera in the corner of my bedroom.

"You-You're behind-the-..." my flabbergasted state and foolish stuttering get interrupted by the door opening and my head immediately snaps towards it.

Steven steps into the room.

My eyes widen as the reality of his existence before me deciphers. He's actually here. This time it's not a dream. He's really here!... I begin to panic. My stress levels surge higher than Mount Everest, if not higher. Vivid images flash through my mind as the world around me slowly begins to deteriorate.

"Well, would you look at that. The hell cat lives," Steven speaks up as he steps into the room with his hands placed in the front pockets of his jeans. I attempt to open my mouth to respond with some sarcastic remark but find myself too startled to breathe out the smallest syllable. "So it's true. You really have become mute," he continues after noticing my unresponsive demeanor and coming to the conclusion that I won't be vocal any time soon.

It's called Selective Mutism you ass. I don't want to talk to you or Peggy!... I yell internally not wanting to give him the pleasure of hearing my angelic voice.

"What the hell are you doing in here!?" Peggy's voice echoes throughout the room and her presence lessen the tension that nearly spiraled out of control not too long ago. I have never appreciated Peggy more... Jess announces and for a split second, I forget that she's merely a voice in my head.
