Steven's POV:

Our banter continues for fifteen or so more minutes before Frank rushes in and breaks the thickset tension between Peggy and I. At times during our banter, we derailed completely, bringing in arguments that had nothing to do with the current situation we're facing.

"She's awake," are the first words to leave his mouth.

I have no idea how or when it happened, but before I knew it I was standing in front of her door.

I reach out to grab at the door handle to open the door, but fail as my hand gets brutally yanked back. My head snaps towards the idiot ready to blast a string of profanities, only to see Peggy glaring at me.

Fuck, forgot she's here.

"What do you think you're doing!?" she yells, only loud enough for me to hear. Before I can answer, she raises a finger indicating for me to be quiet as she takes a deep breath to calm down.

"I'll go in and check on her. I don't need her freaking out again. If she's fine with you coming in, then and only then will you do so. Understood?"

My only response is an 'are-you-kidding' look. Peggy looks back at me expectantly and finding no energy to argue with this forsaken woman, I nod in agreement and go to lean against the wall.

I adjust my body to a more comfortable position, taking pressure off of my healing leg. As soon as she realizes that I won't be going anywhere anytime soon, she enters the room with files-and-all ready to do whatever it is that she has to.

A coma. I still can't believe this shit.

My knowledge of comas is down to an absolute zero. So imagine my surprise when Peggy informed me about hell cat's condition. Apparently, she had no choice but to put hell cat in a medically induced coma to allow her brain to rest and for the swelling to decrease. Hoping to prevent some or all brain damages from occurring. Hell cat took some pretty heavy blows to the head.

All I remember is one minute she passes out in the basement, forcing me to ignore my injuries and carry her all the way to the evaluation room. Next minute the damn child is in an induced coma due to head injuries inflicted by Michael. I will find him before the end of the day. He's going to pay for what he did.

Not that I allowed Beth off the hook. She choked the shit out of hell cat and for someone with a nine-year-old daughter, she sure lacked some fucking self-control. Sadly, Marcus beat me to it with her. Her punishment is far from pleasing, for her that is. I, however, approve of it one hundred percent.

A lingering presence knocks me out of my trance and I rotate my head to see who it is. How I haven't noticed him idling around before is downright ridiculous. Of course Frank followed us all the way here too.

"Must be a heavy cross to bear," he announces and I almost do a double take. He can't seriously believe that I'm putting this shit on my conscience. This isn't my burden to bear. I'm simply doing my job.

I decide on a plain, yet meaningful response; "Fuck you."

He raises his hands in surrender before uttering his next words. "I'm just saying, man. You've been standing out here for about thirty minutes now. If you didn't care, then why are you here?" he questions and I'm suddenly overwhelmed with exhaustion. Dull, small talk conversations tend to mentally drain me.
