Josh's POV

I was waiting on the couch with Maya in an awkward silence. I was waiting for Cory to come fetch me for the bachelor party. Maya was waiting for I don't know who, Riley, I guess, to come get her for the bachelorette party.

Cory refused to tell me anything about where we were going, so I tried to prepare myself for anything.  I was pretty sure it would be out at some bar somewhere, since I just recently turned 21.

"Hey Josh?" I heard a quiet voice come from my right.

"Maya?" I questioned, unsure that she was capable of such a small sound.

"Josh, we are getting married tomorrow." She said in that same tiny voice staring at the wall.

"Yeah, I know," I answered wondering where she was going.

"We're gonna stand up there and say our vows and be tied to each other forever with no way out and we're gonna have to act like a couple all day and oh my God we're gonna have to kiss!" She freaked out, her voice increasing in volume as she talked.

She made a good point, though. I had completely forgotten we would have to kiss, and in front of everybody, too.

"Woah, I uh. I forgot about that. Do you think we should -uh- practice?" I asked, realizing how stupid I sounded.

"Practice kissing?" She questioned. I figured I couldn't take it back.

"Practice kissing." I repeated with sureness this time.

"I guess..." She said, looking back at the wall and reverting to her small voice. I figured the best way to do this was to take her by surprise, so I said,

"Maya, look at me," and when she turned to face me once more I grabbed her face and pulled it into mine, planting my own lips on hers. Her lips were soft and tasted like cherry.

She didn't seem to want to pull apart yet, so I continued kissing her, stronger now. I swear I could feel literal electricity pulsing through me.

Maya's POV

I wondered in my mind if Josh was feeling the same electrical current running  through him as I was.

He pulled me closer into him andI pulled him closer into me. He began to push me backwards into a laying position on the couch when the doorbell rang abruptly ending the moment. We jumped apart and embarrassedly looked away from one another.

"That's probably Cory. We can talk about what just happened later. I mean, if you want. Like, we don't have to but-" He rambled on.

"Josh, just go we'll talk later." I said, sending him out the door. He walked out and I shut the door behind him the I leaned against it and sighed, replaying what just went down in my mind.

Sure, there was no denying fireworks were going off when we kissed, but that doesn't mean anything. Just because a fire lights when we kiss that doesn't mean I like him. It just means that kissing him won't be so horrible.

It's better than how we've been living. At least now we know our kisses are compatible and it'll be something to do that we can call a "common interest" or "bonding" or whatever. But it doesn't mean I have to like him.

I stood up off of the door and walked out of it over to Riley's for the bachelorette party. What a night this was going to be.
