Not a real hamster

Maya's POV

Today Josh and I were going to a first ultrasound to confirm my pregnancy. We wanted to make sure the test was accurate before going on and telling everybody else, since Riley had such a weird reaction, and that kinda freaked me out for telling everybody else if I didn't have to. 

Also, it turned out the "hamster" Riley, Farkle, and Lucas were all freaking out about was just a webkinz, so that just confused me even more. Why were they so concerned about the hygiene of a stuffed animal? 

Anyways, it was finally time for our appointment and I was getting more and more nervous. The doctor put the gel on my stomach and moved it around for several moments before opening her mouth to speak,

"Maya, sweetheart, you're not pregnant," The doctor said, unsure if this would be good news or bad news. 

I took a deep and sharp breath and looked over at Josh to read his immediate facial expression, which was stony and hard to read. 

"Oh.." Was all I said. The doctor said some more things about fertility and stuff if we wanted to try and get pregnant and we just nodded and left. 

"So.." Josh said in the car

"Relief?" I asked him

"Only if you think it is," he answered

"I just don't think we're there yet... Do you ever just feel.... Rushed, I guess?" He asked me. I pondered the question for a moment wondering where this was coming from. We drove home in silence and pondered our lives together. 

Everything was predetermined. From our wedding to our kids to our deaths. This wasn't something I ever would have picked for myself, not if I wasn't forced into it. The reality of almost having a kid with him made me wonder if I really had fallen in love with him or if I had just grown to accept him. 

Josh's POV

Okay, so if I just avoid Lucas for the rest of my life it's like I never kissed him, right? No thats stupid Maya would notice that. But at least she's not pregnant so that makes me slightly less of an asshole. 

I didn't plan to kiss Lucas, I really thought Maya was it, but then he touched my hand in that stupid bowl of popcorn. Why couldn't it be a bowl of lettuce, there's nothing romantic about lettuce! I probably should talk to him about it but Maya or somebody else is always around. The only way I'm going to be able to talk to him about it is if I call him to meet me somewhere. Where's the least romantic place we can meet. THE DUMPSTER! 

To Lucas: Hey, can you meet me out by the dumpster in back of the apartment?

From Lucas: Sure....? When

To Lucas: Now

Lucas: Alright.. not like I have a life.. be there in a few

Five minutes later we were both down behind the dumpsters.

"What's up?" Lucas asked

"We need to talk about the popcorn bowl," I said

"What, did we break it?" 

"No you know what I mean. I'm supposed to be with Maya," I said.

"Yeah, supposed to be. As in Cory woke up one day and said 'you know what would be fun?' Do you and Maya really love each other or is it a force of circumstance?" Lucas asked me.

That was an interesting question. I mean, I was forced into this relationship with Maya but did that mean I loved her any less. Regardless, that still didn't answer anything that happened in that damn popcorn bowl.

"Lucas.. Did you feel anything when we touched?" I asked. He opened his mouth to answer when suddenly Maya rounded the corner with a trash bag in her hand.

"Hey Maya!" I said a little to quickly

"An interesting place for a rendezvous, boys," she said with an indiscernible tone to her voice.

"Did you..." I started to ask, knowing she would know I meant to ask if she heard 

"Yeah." She said, in that same indiscernible tone. 

A/N I wasn't gonna write another chapter tonight but here it is. Obviously we've hit a little road bump for joshaya, and I hope people will remember that this story has evolved since I started it, as I started it several years ago and now have some different ideas. I am writing mainly for enjoyment and hope others enjoy it too. Anyways this is gonna be it for tonight!
