Dan's brother Adrian was staring down at his paper, unsure what to write. He loved Dan and Phil so much that he didn't know where to start. He started to write and he couldn't stop.
The next day, Adrian had to read his speech. When he was called up, he said,
"We are all here today because we love Dan Howell and Phil Lester. They were my role models. They portrayed a love that I hope to have someday. They were inseparable. I wish I could... I could... Bring them back."
He started to sob, but continued,
"I don't know how someone could be so horrible. To go into their house and... And... Kill them because they're gay and bi. They had a rainbow flag in their living room and the monster tore that up too. They were my favorite people. But now they're gone. First my mum, now Dan and Phil. I'm sorry I can't continue..."
He sat down before finishing and put his head in his hands.
3 days earlier...
"Dan, want to go to the cinema?" Phil asked.
"Or, we could stay here, watch movies and cuddle." Dan replied.
"Or do more than cuddle." Phil winked
Dan rolled his eyes and said, "What do you want to watch?"
"The little mermaid. I always found her attractive."
Dan chuckled to himself and started to put the movie on. Phil ran to the kitchen to make popcorn and hot chocolate.
The movie started and they both sat down. A few minutes in to the movie, Dan looked over at Phil. He looked at how focused he was on the movie and giggled. Phil looked at him, and he turned away blushing. Phil gently turned Dan's chin toward his and they started to kiss. Phil sat on Dan's lap and brought Dan's face closer to his with his hands. Then, they heard the doorbell.
"I'll get it." Phil said reluctantly.
Dan heard the door open and heard Phil scream. He ran downstairs to see what was wrong and saw a man he didn't recognize punch Phil. The man then punched Dan. They both blacked out.
When they came to, they were tied to chairs, facing each other.
The man said, "The first thing I'm going to kill is your pride."
He took the rainbow flag above their mantle down and tore it to shreds. Dan saw Phil shed a tear.
He then said, "By the way, my name is James. I thought you should know the name of your killer. Now who should I kill first?"
"Neither of us, you psychopath!" Dan retorted.
"Well, I guess it'll have to be you, sassy pants."
As he was moving Dan's chair to face him, Dan said, "Please don't hurt Phil, he's not actually bi, he's straight, he's straight."
"I know he's bi. I'm his uncle."
Phil started balling and screamed, "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME, WE'RE FAMILY!!"
Phil's uncle then took a knife out of their kitchen and slit Dan's throat. Dan died choking on his own blood.
Phil could hardly breathe. Now that Dan was gone, he realized he had no will to live.
"Just get it done."
The last thing Phil saw was his uncle smiling at him as the life drained out of him.
Present Day
Phil's uncle got up.
"I have something to confess. I killed them. After hearing what Adrian said, I realized that what I did was horrible. I'm going to turn myself in. I'm sorry."
Phil's dad got up and said, "How could you do this to me? You're my brother and you took away one of the few things that makes me happy. I'm calling the cops, and I'm not letting you out of my sight."
The cops came and took him away. Everybody stayed a bit longer and mourned over Dan and Phil.
Later that night, Adrian was crying into his pillow and he thought, "I can't take this anymore."
He slowly walked into his bathroom and found sleeping pills. He put a significant amount in his hand and held it up to his mouth.
He then realized, this is not what Dan would have wanted him to do. Dan would want him to stay strong, and carry on his legacy.
That night, he fell asleep feeling a little bit happier knowing that, even though Dan and Phil were gone, they would always watch over him.
