One day, Dan was meeting Phil's parents. They were both very nervous about telling Phil's mum and dad about their relationship. His mum had always been supportive of Phil's sexuality, but that didn't calm the nerves. Unfortunately, Phil's dad did not feel the same way.
They got to the restaurant 10 minutes early. It was the restaurant where they met. Dan remembered the way Phil looked that day. He remembered the Jellyfish jumper he had on, and his black skinny jeans. He remembered the first time he saw Phil's eyes. The way the blue, green, and yellow all swirled together.
"Dan, they're here!" Phil said.
Dan felt his heart start racing. Phil's parents were led to the table and they sat down.
Phil's mum said, "Hello Philip! Um, who's this?"
"Mum, Dan. Dan, my mum," Phil said
"Very pleased to meet you," Dan said.
Phil's dad didn't say anything. They all ordered these drinks when the waitress came. After that, there was an awkward silence.
To break the silence, Phil said, "I have to tell you guys something... Dan is not just a friend. We've been together for 5 months now, and we wanted you to know."
Phil's mum squealed. Phil's dad just got up, and walked outside without saying anything.
"I should probably go talk to him," Phil's mum walked out of the restaurant.
Dan's phone started ringing. He didn't recognize the number, but he knew he had to pick it up.
"Hello, is this Daniel James Howell?" An unfamiliar voice said.
"Yes"
"I'm very sorry."
"About what?"
"Your mother is in the hospital. She has a few hours to live."
