Training Corps

Review.

We run to the south side of the Wall. Where the boats awaited. Where I would join the Survey Corps. And where I would fight for freedom.

(Her voice is higher though)

     When we get there, Toni and I are pushed onto the boat. "Come on children." A Garrison member usures, I look back at my dad, he smiles in reassurance.

     "I will see you soon. I love you!" He calls, "always remember to smile!" He says giving me a goofy look, I huff and push a smile out. Suddenly another hole is punched into the wall, a large Titan with armor towers over the river. My smile disappears as many more people are crushed, my father is engulfed in grey cement dust. "Find Hanji Zoe!" He calls before, the boat departs. I nod and sink back into the deck, I end up next to a blonde boy as tall as me, his blue eyes are wide and full of fear. His friend next to him has sorrow and fury held in his teal eyes, his short black hair blowing in the slight wind.

     "I'm gonna kill every last one of them." He growls furiously, I grunt, and the girl next to him gives me a side glance. Her hair is shoulder length and her eyes are like steel, a red scarf hanging around her neck, I look away and at the sunset. I smile slightly. I look down at my clenched fist and open my hand revealing a pure gold locket, how could mom afford this?! Toni grabs it and silently hooks it onto my neck. I sigh and look at the engraved writing, in fine cursive. 'Freedom for humanity.' I almost start to cry again so I cover my mouth with my hand. I let go of the pendant and remove my hand. Freedom shall come.

     "Who are you and why do you want to join the Survey Corps?!" Commander Shadis yells at a boy with a buzz cut, he salutes the wrong way. Shadis is a tall man with no hair except for a patch of beard on his chin his eyes are an intimidating hazel.

     "Connie Springer, I joined to serve..." I sigh and look away, this was boring, my eyes land on a girl with brown hair, she is eating a steamed potato, suddenly I hear a thud and I see the boy in front of me keeled over on the ground, Shadis walks over to the girl, towering over her like the walls surrounding us. I look forward tuning out of their conversation.

     "...RUN!!! NO FOOD FOR THE REST OF THE DAY!!" I wince slightly, and sigh. Suddenly Shadis is towering over me. I salute him, a fist over my heart, and one behind my back. "What is your name cadet?!" He yells in my face, I look up into his hazel eyes not intimidated by him.

     "Blake Hanson, sir." I say emotionlessly, he looks a little surprised.

     "What Division are you choosing Cadet Hanson?!" He barks, I continue to hold eye contact.

     "Survey Corps, sir." I answer bluntly, he growls, knowing he picked an already blank slate.

     "Why do you want to join the Survey Corps?!" He spits, I sigh and break eye contact, I close my eyes then open them looking back at him with a cold glare, he flinches a little. I hear someone whisper 'she just made Commander Shadis wince!' I internally roll my eyes.

     "I don't want to join, I am going to join the Survey Corps, and why I am. Because humanity deserves freedom, freedom from fear itself." He looks shocked at what I said and I smirk, cadets around me gasp. The Commander growls and stands straight again.
