Chapter∆1
Aaliyah was walking down her block with some of her friends from school. They walked up to her porch and sat on the steps. Brandy, Monica and Melissa stared at Aaliyah. Aaliyah couldn't bare to acknowledge their strong stares.
"You know what! I hate the fact you're leaving, I always thought we would be leaving together." Melissa yelled out. Aaliyah just looked down. Aaliyah was leaving so that her big brother Rashad could live his dream of being a writer. She was proud that her brother was getting the chance to live his dream. See Aaliyah put her dreams on the back burner so that her big brother could live his dream, no one got that except for her mother, Diane.
"I know Missy, but it's for Rashad. I'll come back every summer and winter." Aaliyah said trying to calm her best friend's nerves. It was sort of working but knowing Melissa she had something to say about wanting the whole crew to move to New York.
"Well, Liyah. I know I'm going to miss you dearly." Brandy said rubbing Aaliyah's back, Aaliyah turned and smiled sweetly at her friends. Monica kept quiet and that made Aaliyah worry a little bit. Monica was definitely one to be outspoken.
"Mo?" Aaliyah called. Monica just stared at Aaliyah. It was when they all noticed a tear fall from her eye that they all turned into a group hug. The front door opened and there stood Aaliyah's mother and father. The girls hugged for the last time. Well the last time Aaliyah would be in Detroit.
"LiLi it's gonna be great in New York Rashad says that he's loving it. And he says that there's a lot of dancing studios." Aaliyah's father said, Diane nodded trying to make a smile appear on their daughter's face.
"How long is the drive Daddy?" Aaliyah asked. Moving around her dad's positive statement.
"It shouldn't be no more that eight hours." Aaliyah's mother answered. Aaliyah nodded, as she plugged her beats into her phone. She was listening to some Rock music, Aaliyah loved everything about music she listened to every genre. Aaliyah took tons of pictures as they drove. Her mom saw a smile on her daughter's face and was happy that she wasn't a dull spirit.
~8 1/2 Hours Later~
"Aaliyah, Wake Up, LiLi, Baby Girl." Rashad, carefully woke his baby sister. Aaliyah yawned before looking around. Even though she was born in Brooklyn and visits family members sometimes The sight of lights gets to amaze her every time. She hugged her brother before grabbing her bags, Rashad helped his little sister while telling her all that he's seen.
"Oh and Liyah I signed you up for some dancing contest." Rashad said with a large smile.
"You did what?" She asked. His smile then faded. He noticed she wasn't as excited as he thought she would be.
"Liyah, I know you love to dance, so I signed you up." He said. Aaliyah was incredibly shy she only danced with her friends and family.
"Aaliyah, you're an amazing dancer and with beautiful voice. You're a born performer. Don't let being shy get in your way." Rashad said pulling his sister into a hug.
"Rashad you don't understand. I can't just dance in front of people. Nor can I just sing because I can. People will start to look and then looks turn into stares. And only the lord knows what stares turn into."
"Liyah stares turn into awards." he said. Aaliyah laughed. He was that positive attitude she loved ever since she could remember.
