Chapter∆3
"Yes." Rashad said.
"Yes." Diane smiled.
"No!" Aaliyah's mouth flew open. Her dad looked at his daughter as if she was crazy.
"Do you realize how big of an opportunity this is Michael?" Diane asked.
"Do you realize how many children we have Diane?" Michael snorted.
"Michael, I'm pretty sure we have two kids. But, Aaliyah's trying to live her dream. Why won't you let her?"
"She can live her dream. Just not with a grown ass man, all the way on the other side of the world, Diane." Michael said.
"Michael she's seventeen." Diane said.
"Yes, seventeen not eighteen, nor nineteen. My answer remains NO." Michael said. He saw as a single tear fell from his daughter's eye. He couldn't bare to look at her so he decided to send her off to her room. Diane looked at her husband in disgust. She knew he wouldn't intentionally hurt her it was just his own selfish reasons why he couldn't let her go.
Rashad stood to his feet and shook his head at his father. Michael hadn't cared, it was what he said and he didn't regret anything he said. Rashad knew his father was stubborn, but his mother always got her way. Rashad walked to Aaliyah's room. She was playing with a piece of crumpled paper.
"What's that?" Rashad asked. Aaliyah looked up and handed him the paper. Rashad looked down and saw a phone number with the initials of who he assumed was the singer.
"C.B, what does it stand for?" Rashad asked. Aaliyah looked at her brother and whispered.
"Christopher Brown." Aaliyah answered in a voice a little over a whisper.
"Who?" Rashad asking thinking he hadn't heard her correctly.
"Right, they were looking at me like I was crazy when I asked him, his name." Aaliyah said. Rashad looked at her the same way the others did. She made up her face.
"Don't tell me you know of him?"
"Know of him, I listen to Loyal everyday." Rashad said. Aaliyah still had no clue.
"Come on Liyah, you're telling me all these years you've never listened to a track by him." Rashad asked in amazement, he wasn't shocked. Aaliyah listened to every genre she just, listened to more of the throwbacks like things from the 90s.
"Aaliyah!" Diane's voiced echoed throughout the house. Aaliyah and Rashad looked at each other with kool aid smiles plastered on their light skin.
Aaliyah got off her bed and wiped away of any stray tears.
"Yes, mom." Aaliyah said as Rashad followed behind his baby sister. They observed the room and the people in it. Aaliyah's mother face homed a smile, while Michael's homed a scowl. He was defeated by his wife, and his children knew it. Aaliyah began to smile. But then Michael had to put his portion of the agreement in.
"Under one condition." Michael said. Making Rashad groan in annoyance, Rashad was annoyed of his father tending to be overprotective of Aaliyah. Michael looked over at his son and changed his mind. He looked over to his wife who sensed his change of mind and sighed.
"Rashad must accompany Aaliyah. Almost as if he was her bodyguard." Michael smiled, Diane gripped her stomach feeling as if her womb which homed both her children for nine months was getting ripped out. She was prepared for one child to leave the nest, not both.
"No. No. No!" Diane yelled. Aaliyah looked at her mother and noticed her stress. Rashad stood there with his mouth ajar. His father wouldn't dare do such a thing.
"Mommy, forget it I won't go. I call Christopher and tell him I no longer want the job." Aaliyah said. Aaliyah's mother looked as if she had just snapped her neck to look at her daughter. Aaliyah just by her mother's facial expression and knew that she needed to sit down.
"Michael, I will not have both my babies leave me. I'll go crazy and you know it. Rashad will stay here and live his dream as a writer and Aaliyah will do the same Touring the world with that Christan boy." Diane said. She hadn't noticed she'd messed up the singer's name, because of her high level of anger. Michael knew his wife was angry but he wasn't understanding, why. She hadn't acted this way when they went to school. Rashad, was okay with following his sister. But all over the world was a different story. Aaliyah has never been out of the states and he wanted Aaliyah to see the world. Michael wanted the best for his daughter while Diane wanted her baby girl to fulfill all of her dreams, so that she'll never refer anything in the future.
"Aaliyah will go by herself." Diane said, literally putting her foot down. I was when Aaliyah heard the word 'Herself' that frightened her. She's never been alone. And she was about to tell her mom that she wasn't ready. She needed her brother, father, and most importantly her mother.
"Mom we could always travel with her to the first place where she's performing." Rashad said sensing his sister's worry. Aaliyah's eyes lit up with joy and excitement. Diane nodded.
"Okay, I guess that'll work?" Diane shrugged. Michael took his wife to their bedroom. Michael knew she needed to be comforted.
"Liyah, pack your bags." Rashad said with a large grin. Aaliyah laughed and called Chris the good news. Chris couldn't wait, he was excited to have her on tour. Aaliyah seemed to be a joyful spirit, She felt the same about Chris.
