I stood up, letting go of Dans hand. He watched as I walked around the room searching around and under furniture.
"What are you looking for?" He asked. I found what I was looking for under the sofa, where Grace must have hidden it. I picked up the phone and showed Dan. I unlocked it and dialled 999. I told the police what had happened and Dan told them all her details. I guess they really got to know each other while I was gone.
After hanging up Dan and I both slumped onto the sofa. We were both exhausted after what we had just experienced.
"Phil your hands- they're bleeding" Dan said taking my hands in his.
"You were just tied to a chair and beaten...and you're worrying about my hands?" I smiled weakly at him.He smiled as best he could too before finding a small bandage for my hands. He sat closely next to me and took my hand, wrapping it in the bandage. I watched as his soft hands worked around mine and he furrowed his eyebrows in concentration.
Suddenly there was a loud knock at the door and both our heads shot up, looking at the door in surprise. I turned to Dan, gulping nervously, and he gently squeezed my hand reassuringly before standing up. He cautiously walked over to the door and I followed closely behind him.
The door slowly creaked open and we were both anxious as to who it could be. A police officer stepped in and Dan and I both sighed deeply relieved. We told the police officer everything that had happened in as much detail as possible.
"May I ask the name of this woman again?" He asked looking up from his notepad.
"Grace..Grace Helbig" I sighed sadly.
The officer nodded and jotted down her name in the notepad, before slipping it back into his pocket and looking at us both.
"Well, you two should probably go to the hospital in case there are any serious injuries, but for now I'll leave you to it and we will alert you when Grace is found. She will be serving time for this crime."Dan and I smiled weakly at the officer and said our thank you's before he left us alone in the apartment again.
I turned to Dan who was staring aimlessly at the floor. "Dan," I started but he was too focused on his thoughts to he hear me. "Dan." I said again slightly louder and waving my hand in front of his eyes. He looked up at me and smiled weakly, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
"Let's get some rest." I said taking his hand and gently leading him towards his room. He laid down on his back staring up at the ceiling emotionless on his bed. I lay down next to him, watching him and brushing my hand through his hair.
He turned his head to look up at me and it was only now I noticed the tears forming in his eyes. "I'm scared." He whispered.
"Dan...I-It'll be okay." I replied trying to sound reassuring.
Dan turned away and stared at the ceiling again. "How do you know?" He asked.
"because I'm here now. I can protect you." I leaned over and kissed the top of his head gently.
