A hooded person is standing in front of me. This guy is as surprised as i am. I can't really see his face though cause of the hood is covering most of his face. But judging from the smell he must be an elf.
"Hey, you okay?" i said out of worry. he didn't say a word. he bow down his head, i guess as an apology which is an elven tradition and just quickly back on his trail.
"what a weird and suspicious person" i said while i stare to his back as he walk away.
"yeah, she must be in a hurry though" Rus added.
"i know right, she didn't even sa-wait, she?!" i look at Rus with a surprised expression.
"you didn't realized?"
"no, i can tell that she's elven from the smell and the gesture. but i couldn't tell the gender difference."
"you're really a half beastling then. your nose is not that good."
"hey, even though my nose looks human-ish it has better sense than human's noses"
"not as good as beastlings though"
"shut up!"that's right folks. i may have better agility and a bit smarter (i question it) than other beastlings and humans. but i don't have senses that most of them has. well, nobody is perfect as they say. that being said. we continue our journey home.
we finally set foot in front of the gate of the Beast House. the neighborhood is really quiet just like any other days. some call this part of the city as ghost town, or ghost neighborhood... Or ghost hood. and that is probably because of the fact that nobody lives around here. i mean this neighborhood consist of 7 houses and 5 of them are empty. the 2 buildings that's ocupied are the beast house and the other one is a wood carpentry 3 houses apart from the beast house, owned by an old human named Hob. he's actually a nice guy. he never minded being looked down by other people just because he lives in an ex-beastling neighborhood. but i didn't see him in his workshop earlier. he must've been in the woods gathering lumbers today. either that or someone's roof needs a fixing. hopefully he'll come by again tonight to have some glass of cider that madam Lyla always brew.
anyway, i think I'll drown myself with the leftover apple cider from last night later in my room, my abode, my peace place of zen. As we are going in the front door to the main hall, we see Madam Lyla is sitting near the fireplace while fixing some pillow covers that has holes on them. apparently some beastlings chew on their pillow as they sleep. pfft, childs.
"hey, Madam Lyla. we're home!" Rus said as he walks in. "welcome home you two" replies Madam Lyla as she looks up and fix her glasses position. "hey old hag, we're ho-" before i can finish that sentence a pillow cover flying across the room faster than an arrow projectile and lands perfectly on my face knocking me back a bit.
"hey! what gives?!" i shout removing the cloth that was blocking my view. "can it brat! respect your elder!" she replies with annoyed face. "pfft! you're not that old! I'll respect you once you have gray hair." i say as i walk in through the main hall with Rus in front of me. "i am 15 years older than you. i think i deserve it!" she said trying to keep her cool. "yeah, sure, whatever. besides, once you deserve that respect you become a real old hag" yep. i said that. "why you little-" she clenches her fist. "5 steps into the house and you two are already at it. can't we have a day without you two arguing?" Rus interupted. me and Madam Lyla are looking down to the floor. ashamed of our childish act. just kidding. i don't feel bad at all. but Madam Lyla might be though.
Rus looks at me and say, "anyway, we should prepare for hunting tonight. the meat stock is almost out". then he puts down the share of gold for Madam Lyla on the table near her. "here's today's pay ma'am."
she looks at the bag and looks at him again. "thank you, Ruster. but you don't have to do this you know. we can use the bread that Laura always bring for food."
i also put some gold for her on the same table and say "nah, don't sweat it old hag. it's the least we can do to help. speaking of which, where is Laura? shouldn't she be home?" Ruster who was on his way to his room is now standing there like a statue and i can see Ruster's ear shaking a bit in interest.
"oh she went home just now" replies Madam Lyla. "but she went out again the get some stuff she has forgotten back at the cake shop". she then continues her knitting on the pillows.
"ah, okay. well, we should go and prepare. right Rus?" i glanced at him. seems like he was frozen stiff trying to hear everything from the conversation
"y-yes, you're right. we should!" then he nervously rush upstairs towards his room.
"i can see that kid likes my nephew." teased Madam Lyla.
i chuckles "he's really bad at keeping secrets, but well that's another reason why we love him." after that i proceed to my room which is on the second floor while Ruster's room is in the third floor.
