the night is cold and quiet. we move carefully through the woods without any light source. our beastling eyes helps us see in the dark. the bright moon isn't very much of help. the dense leaves from the trees makes it hard for the moonlight to give us a bit of light. but this is better because then no monster can spot us while we can see them. the trees are getting taller and taller as we move deeper into the woods so we decided to jump on a tree and move around from branches to branches. this gives us bird eyes view so it's easier to spot our prey and stay out of danger.
as we roam we only see packs of Buffwulf sleeping. guarding their alpha. they are monsters with the similarity of wolf from the old world but bigger and has 6 feet, 4 forelegs and 2 hind legs. they have large fangs that can cut through their prey's neck easily. even so, they are not very durable. a beginner hunter can take one of them in a couple of hits. it's their alpha that gives one a challange. it has larger body structure and has exo-skeleton that protects their vital parts. aside from that, the alpha can also call for reinforcement. imagine fighting 10 buffwulf and one alpha all at once. that's why a hunter shouldn't hunt alone. they should at least bring one companion with them. where did i get all those information from you ask? well, i may not look like it but from now and then i read books too. and no i am not a nerd! i just like to know more information okay?! don't judge me! anyway, back to hunting!
after a very long walk around the woods we finally find our prey. a Juggernaut. a big herbivore that usually travels in herd. they have 4 feet, a thick skin underneath the cozy warm fur, and a gigantic tusk around 2 meters long. i think in the old world they call it a bull? or is it a boar? because their face looks like a bull but they don't have horns. they have tusks though which makes them look like a boar. well, maybe a mix of the two. and their female counterpart is called Windum. they looks exactly like a juggernaut but they don't have tusks. they have a shell on top of their head which I'm guessing for self defense. most herd have one juggernaut to protect 2 to 4 windum. but this guy is a loner. it's a really rare sight to see a juggernaut without it's herd. i guess this one is the one that the other worker at the smith talks about. the one that goes rampaging on a farm near the city wall couple of days ago. well, more like i over heard them talking. sadly the farmers doesn't have money to put a request to the Hunting Hall, the place for hunters to get their jobs and register themselves as hunters. i guess that makes me and Rus here a rogue hunters since we haven't register. anyway, where was i? oh yeah. hunting.
after i tied a rope between two trees as a trap, i signal Rus as a green light to engage the monster. Rus immidiately jumps down from a treetop making a loud sound. the monster wakes up and roar at him. Rus pulls out his giant hunting axe and make his battle stance. they both sprint towards each other while i take a good aim at the monster. the monster lower it's head to make the tusk strike like a spear. Rus smiles and keep charging on it. and when it's about time to collide, he jumps over it. making the monster charge forth to a tree. when it got stuck to a tree i let out a barrage of bolts, hurting it's back. Rus then turns around and runs to the monster. he hit the monster's side. making only a scratch from an axe that big. After it struggles and roar violently, the monster is free but one of it's tusk is stuck to the tree.
the monster is now enrage, letting out another roar. it's eyes are turning red. Rus jumps back to get out of the way. while i shoot right to it's face but the bolt ricochet from it's face. he looks at me full of anger. i put away my crossbow. pull out 2 of my fingers making a 'v' and winks at it. it charges towards me at full speed. But before it can hit me i jump over it. as it happens, the monster trips over the trap i put up earlier making the belly vulnerable. i quickly grab 3 bolts that's covered in pralysis toxin. and throw them to the monster's belly mid air. after i land i quickly run to group up with Rus. the monster rolls around and slamming it's belly to the ground making the bolts earlier pierces through it's skin. but it takes a while for the toxin to work it's magic.
the juggernaut slowly stands up and brace itself for a desperate charge attack. "i have no herd to get back to. might as well fight till my last breath".
Rus looks at me weirdly and say "Rex, can you not add dialogue to a monster?"
i chuckles and say "what? it adds a some oomph to this hunt"
Rus just sigh and put his axe up high as the monster charge towards him. before it can get close to him the paralysis toxin kicks in making it's body stiff. The limped juggernaut slides on the ground towards us and stops right under our feet. then Rus deliver the final killing blow.
"and that's how you hunt with style". i said to lighten up the mood. Rus just smiles and we fist bumps for this hunt is another victory for the beast house. we then proceed to gather everything from the dead stiff juggernaut. meat, pelts, bones, everything. it take us a while to gather those resources and after we're done we head straight back home.
