Stephanie stared at her laptop screen, a series of charts and spreadsheets covering the screen. She was trying to plan out the next few weeks of videos for Game Theory and Film Theory whilst Matthew wrote scripts. They had hoped to go away for the weekend but they were swamped with work. It was almost time for PAX, which meant they needed to be several weeks ahead in upload planning. If she didn't get the schedule right, then the editors wouldn't finish in time and the videos would go up a lot later than planned. They only posted one theory a week, sometimes one every two weeks but consistent content for viewers to come back to was a key part of running the channels. Plus, Jason had to edit and upload a whole bunch of live streams to the GTLive channel whilst they were away.
Frowning, she flicked between charts, trying to find a way to schedule the different editors to all be working on different content. Ronnie had called in sick recently, he had been to the doctor and they'd instructed him to take a couple weeks off to rest so they were one editor short whilst he was recovering. Rubbing her eyes, Stephanie felt a headache coming on. That was the danger of working with screens and complex diagrams all day; it strained your eyes quite quickly. Matthew was sat on the other side of the table, tapping away at his keyboard as he wrote the next Film Theory. He'd been researching this one for several weeks so he was very determined to get it right and portray it to his audience in just the right manner. Amusingly, Film Theory seemed to get less hate than Game Theory did but then again, that was the gaming community for you.
Pushing her chair backwards, Stephanie ventured into the kitchen. She dug through the drawers in search of some form of pain medication, pushing past various piles of keys and envelopes in order to find them. Pulling out a box of paracetamol, a sigh of annoyance escaped her as she opened it up to find a series of empty capsules. Who put an empty box of painkillers back into the drawer? Opening up the bin, she put the rubbish away and ventured towards the stairs, heading up to the bathroom where they kept their medicine cabinet. However, she was interrupted by the doorbell. Pausing halfway up the stairs, Stephanie listened to see whether any of the guys were going to move to answer the door but of course, nobody moved. The doorbell rang again and she moved to answer it, grumbling under her breath about the laziness of her co-workers.
Stephanie peered through the peephole briefly to see two police officers standing on her doorstep. Frowning, she opened the door, ensuring that she kept the chain on. The officers reacted to her opening the door, stopping whatever conversation they were having and focusing their attention on her.
"Can I help you, officers?"
The female officer spoke first, tilting her hat upwards so she could look Stephanie in the eye. She exuded an aura of authority and confidence that would normally set Stephanie's nerves at ease but for some reason, it just put her on edge.
"You must be Mrs Patrick, correct? We're looking for your husband, Matthew. Is he home? We need to borrow some of his time."
"I'll go get him if you don't mind waiting here for a minute."
The female officer nodded and gave Stephanie an encouraging smile. Shutting the door, Stephanie caught a glimpse of the male officer moving towards the car – looking down to where their back door was as if Matthew was going to go sprinting out of it like some form of a fugitive. Leaning against the door for a moment, Stephanie pondered the situation. Why would the police appear so suddenly? Jason had been on jury duty recently but they weren't after him and normally the summons for jury duty was sent via letters rather than in person. Perhaps something had happened in the nearby area and they wanted to check on the security systems they had in place in the house? Though if that were the case, they could've just spoken to her.
Matthew sat on his laptop, glaring at the script he was writing. He'd been making such good progress up until the doorbell had gone and completely knocked his productive mindset. They had a couple hours till the stream was due to start and they were planning to start a few minutes early to prank the viewers so they needed to get everything done quite quickly. Jason and Chris sat a few metres away, bickering quietly over the thumbnail for today's stream. They were going to play Breath of the Wild again but they couldn't agree on what style of a thumbnail to go for, comedic or scenic. Stephanie had gone to answer the door a couple minutes ago and he had overheard some conversation but it didn't sound like anyone they knew personally so he continued to ignore it.
