A man and a woman sat on a sofa, talking to one another. Their co-workers sat across the room, flicking between windows on their computer screens.
A cat lay stretched on the carpet, stretching his limbs and digging his claws into the floor. He would occasionally look up at the humans who tried to gain his attention. However, he knew that it wasn't time for food yet so he didn't care too much.
Rain drizzled outside of the window, the liquid pattering on the patio and on the window – the sound soothing the couple as time ticked past. They were waiting for the stream to begin. So, to pass the time, they chatted.
From afar you wouldn't label that as a couple; you'd consider them as best friends before you jumped to romance. Yet for them, that didn't annoy them. Their relationship began as a friendship and it had made it all the stronger. By truly knowing one another, they had stories to tell, stories they had experienced together.
Their lives weren't massively dramatic or traumatic. Sure, they had struggled and sometimes negativity was hurled their way but they had one another. Working side by side, they had forged their own path in life. They were happy and that was what mattered.
The clock struck four and the stream began, the couple switching from conversation to their usual routine. It ran like a well-oiled machine, the pair of them comfortably teasing one another and making sarcastic remarks about whatever game they playing that day. Mocking co-workers, laughing at the game protagonists silly decisions and cooing over their cat, the audience loved it all.
Thousands of strangers all across the world sat with the stream loaded on their device, allowing the familiarity of the stream and the hilarity of the hosts to suck them in. Whatever stresses those strangers had vanished for an hour and a half. There were no tears, only laughter and enjoyment – accompanied by a feeling of belonging.
Observing the chat and social media, the woman smiled. She watched as the viewers responded in earnest and close friends online shared their joy with one another. They had built this community. Friendships forged and amazing talent shared because they had taken that step into the unknown. She turned to her husband and watched him, contentment in her heart and love in her eyes.
The man threw himself into the stream, trying to be as energetic and enthusiastic as he could. He knew that a handful of the thousands watching would be down on their luck. He received messages talking about how he had helped save them from the darkest points in their lives. It humbled him to think of how his videos and the goofy livestreams he did with his wife every week, had such a positive influence.
That influence was something he was desperate to use for good. At points of his life, he had needed a light, a support, an escape from the real world. He had been lucky enough to find his wife. She had stood beside him through thick and thin. Even when the darkness loomed and the doubtful voices in his head grew too loud, there she was.
Not everyone was as lucky.
Astonished. That was how he felt whenever he saw the talented people that supported him. Whether they were members of his team, close friends or fans who just wanted to show that they cared, he was always blown away by them. Art, writing, editing, positivity, they had it all. He'd be nothing without them. He knew that.
Time ticked past and soon the stream ended, signified by the cat launching itself towards its owners in a desperate search for food. The woman scratched behind his ears, grinning as the feline settled itself on her lap – seeking more affection. Purring, the animal butted his head against her hand, determined to make sure that his human knew that he loved her.
Friendly bickering broke out between the two co-workers across the room, their comradery obvious to all who could see. The five of them were a family. Occasionally, they would argue or disagree but it never stayed like that. They were one another's constants in the storm of life.
The rain grew heavier and the wind began to howl, battering the house. Lightning flashed and thunder boomed – frightening the feline. The woman soothed him. The co-workers eventually took their leave, hoping to get home before the storm grew worse. Wishing them a good evening, the couple merely remained where they were.
On that sofa, in the centre of a roaring storm – they were happy. That was what mattered. A man, a woman, a cat and thousands of dedicated fans. That was what made GTLive.
A/N
Short and sweet, with a different writing style. This was interesting to write.
This was a culmination of me wanting to test a new style and my amazing supporters on Twitter voting for a realistic story (hence no angst but not really fluff either)
Thank you for the constant support you all give me, got two really nice oneshots coming up soon (both twitter suggestions so thanks guys), one is the fluffiest thing I've ever written and the other is a bit of an AU...
Much love,
