Chapter 3: Claire

That night we go to Claire's house. She gave me the opportunity to speak to mum but I don't want to. She must have known. She must of." Tea?" Claire offers. I nod. "How do the tests work?" I ask, trying to lighten the mood. Her expression brightens. "Well,finding the torch suggests darkness, because you found it in the dark." She says. "Then you wanted to know who the creature was, which is curiosity. That leads you to earth." Interesting. I think. "The way you reacted with the monster leads to fire."
"Why?" I ask.
"Because you decided to punch him for your defence. Fire house practices self defence."Ohhhhh." When your mother said stop you stopped, which says water, the keepers of peace. You got ice because of the control you had during the test, like when you crouched, and when you tried to control your breathing. You got air because you believed that you could finish him. And finally you got light because you shone the torch in the creatures eyes." I smile. "I knew you would be earth as soon as you walked in. It's often easy to recognise an earth." Claire adds.
"What are you?" I ask curiously ( earth trait!) .
She smiles " Ice." My eyes widen.
" So, you weren't scared of your test at all!?"
" Ice isn't about being fearless. It's about control. How long do you think you were in there, Genevieve?"
" Ummmm? An hour?" I offer.
" Five minutes."
"Is that bad?"
She frowns. "No. It's very good actually."
Ok. It's ok Gen. You did well.
I slowly sip my tea as she starts the next story.

" Good night Genevieve." Claire whispers at 10pm. We had spent the night by the fire, sharing stories about our lives. Apparently she is 32 years old, has a husband named Seth ( 34 years ) and has been doing testing for 8 years. She says it's interesting. It must be important too.
