Branch sat in his bunker and decided he would get up to collect more sticks, when someone knocked on his door.

It was Poppy.

"What do you want, Poppy?" he asked, annoyed.

"I just wanted to ask if you'd come to my party?" she asked, sweetly. She put on the sweetest smile that Branch almost couldn't handle. "It's my birthday tomorrow, and-"

"No."

Poppy looked at him, upset. Her eyebrows wrinkled, upset.

"Come with me," she said, and grabbed his hand and led him to under a tree.

"Please?" she asked, and looked into his eyes. He didn't know what to do.

If he said yes, how would she react? Would she scream? Would she kiss him?

Branch shook his head. "No!"

What am I saying?! He thought to himself.

Poppy's eyes filled up with tears. She looked at him. He felt bad. But he didn't know what to do.

"Well, I'll be counting the seconds hoping you'll come," she said, and a tear slid down her cheek.

"Don't hold your breath," said Branch, and watched as she sobbed and ran away from him.

He stood up, but was interrupted when a pair of arms grabbed his hands and put them behind his back.

"You made her cry," the troll said, and Branch knew who it was.

"I didn't mean to," he told Creek. "It just.....came out."

"Yeah, right. Just like every other mean thing you've said to Poppy?"

"Creek," Branch said. "I need your help. I need you to help me understand how to make Poppy love me. Because...I love her."

Creek scoffed. "Poppy would never fall for an idiot like you. You're useless, you're just a pile of rubbish. Nobody likes you."

Branch didn't know if he had heard Creek correctly. He gave him a glare.

"Whatever, Creek," he said, and ran off back to his bunker.

Had Creek really just said that to him?!?!

Was it true?
