Thomas watched Alby and Newt throw the sticks into the weirdly shaped pile of sticks.

The way the fire light lit up Newt's face seemed familiar to Thomas. A small smile creeped up onto Thomas' face. Newt looked over at Thomas and smiled. Thomas felt something warm go up his neck and reach his cheeks. He looked down and started to play with the dirt with his shoe. Newt walked over and said,"How you doin' greenie?"Thomas shrugged and looked up,"Just a lot to take in.".

"I know, but don't worry, if you have any questions just come to me or Alby, but Alby isn't as good as answering questions so, just come it me if you need anything."Newt said with a smile. Thomas chuckled with the blush still staining his cheeks.

"Uh, are you hungry? thirsty?"Newt asked as he awkwardly scratched his neck. Thomas said,"A little hungry."Newt nodded and smiled. He started walking to the kitchen and Thomas followed him. As they walked down the lane some of the boys cat called Thomas and Thomas blushed. He could see that it was making Newt angry about the other Gladers cat calling him but he didn't want to make a scene.

Once they reached the kitchen a colored kid walked up and said,"Welcome to the kitchen how can I help you today?"Newt laughed and so did the boy. "Greenie, this is Frypan, Frypan this is the new greenie,"Frypan chuckled and put his hand out and said,"Welcome to the glade, newbie." Thomas smiled and shook Frypan's hand. Newt bit his lip and asked,"Uh, what's for dinner?"Frypan smiled and said,"Chicken!"and he started to jump up and down and grabbed the chicken and handed Thomas and Newt one.

Newt chuckled and Thomas smiled,"Thanks Fry, see you at the match."Newt said as he took a bite of chicken and Frypan nodded and said,"See ya! Treat the newbie well!".

Newt and Thomas found a log to seat on. Thomas sat in front of it while Newt sat on top of it. "So,do you remember your name yet?"Newt asked and Thomas shook his head. Newt hummed and slid down to sit next to Thomas. He scooted closer and leaned in. He waited for the griver noise and on cue it screeched. Newt have a small smirk and pointed,"Now that, that was a griver. They're horrible things really. They could kill you with one sting, the sting contains poisonous venom."Thomas turned his head and he was now face to face with Newt.

Thomas heard a very loud creaking noise. He turned his head in panic and asked,"What was that?"Newt's small smirk began to grow,"That, that was the maze changing. It only changes during night time. It only closed during night time. Opens at exactly six in the morning and closes at seven at night." Newt's face began to inch closer but the noise of the maze doors shutting scared Newt and he jumped back.

He chuckled and handed Thomas his drink,"Want some? It's Gally's 'secret' recipe."Thomas looked at the drink then at Newt. Newt nodded and Thomas grabbed the drink and took a sip. Thomas' mouth began to burn and he spitted it out. "Oh, what is that?"he said as he handed Newt his drink back. Newt chuckled and said,"I don't know, Gally makes it. Only he and Frypan know."Newt took a sip and Thomas said,"How can you drink that?"Newt shrugged and chugged some of it. Newt smirked and Thomas smiled.

Newt looked over to the other boys and saw Gally wrestling with one of the Gladers in the ring. Newt smiled and said,"Wanna go to the ring?"Thomas shrugged and said,"Why not?"Newt smiled and helped Thomas up.

On the way there Thomas noticed that Newt didn't let go of his hand.
