I almost threw my computer across the fucking room.

Did they just say my name???

Why?

How?

What?

I'm totally speechless.

The video is still playing and the members of Team 10 are saying congratulations to me or something . . . I'm too shocked I can barely hear the words.

Then, my brain remembers that Sandra is in the room.

I look up.

She just stares at me.

I have never been a talkative person, but for the first time in my life, I truly don't know how to speak to her.

So I don't.

We just stand there. Staring at each other.

A minute passes.

And then another.

And another.

I open my mouth to say something. Nothing comes out. So I close it.

More time passes.

Neither of us moves.

At some point, the bell rings and kids run down the hallway to class.

We still don't move.

After a while, I realize Maddi and Hailey aren't there. They must have slipped out to leave us alone.

Suddenly, I notice how much I wish they were here. Maybe they could break the silence. But they aren't and Sandra and I continue to stare.

My mind wanders to my mom. She would know what to do right now.

I think about all the times I was upset when things didn't go my way. Without a word, my mom would give me a hug. Somehow, in that simple gesture, she would fix all my problems.

Finally, my feet begin to move.

I walk slowly toward Sandra.

She doesn't move.

Wordlessly, I wrap my arms around her.

Her arms stay at her sides.

I pull away.

She still doesn't move.

I turn around and pick up my computer and headphones.

Without looking back, I walk through the doors and out of the library.
