My gaze fell on another symbol which had a horizontal line , which was intersected by another line , a few inches ahead. The line then stood up standing vertically and looped in. It then horizontally stretched on for an inch or two then looped in and slanted down. The line then rose up to form an open quadrilateral with which was then intersected by a line and a 'v'.
The third slab had words 'May' written in Aramandan. It was elegantly carved with the most beautiful of writings but clear for anyone to read. The last slab had the words 'from evil' in a very perhaps elegant style of those days. It's letters 'O' , 'E' and the dot of the 'I' looped in a peculiar manner.
"It's the lostoringian motto." I said tracing the slabs ," I just need to arrange them in order."
"Correction, prophecy ." Jenifer said trying to still hold me as stably as she could.
"What !" I asked , my head looking down at them.
"Later." Silvia huffed.
Though my mind, was set on fixing the slab in the correct order, my heart was beating harder than ever. My heads were sweaty but at the same time they were cold too. I moved each slab slowly and carefully so as to not drop it and break it.
As I placed the last slab in the correct order, the tunnel rumbled. And the last slab fell into my hands, making me wonder whether I had placed the wrong slab. The lid started moving and let go of it making the three of us tumble down on the floor.
The Nerezza, screamed as the tunnel opened with the bright light of the sun shining upon us. It's glorious light spread through the dark tunnel but because of sitting in darkness for too long we had to cover eyes.
But it's bright light meant so much to us, it was a ray of hope that said you are close to your destination. Your life just gets better and most of all you can save your people from the darkness in the world. It was like an unspoken promise that revealed itself to us , the most magnificent way possible.
Stepping out of the dark tunnel was much faster than we expected. Once the lid had slid out, it let down a ladder ,a rope one, which was strong enough to hold each one of us one at a time (Christopher had checked it's strength before we started to climb.
Jenifer was yet again the last to climb out just after Silvia. I wondered how she could hold herself back and let others go ahead , outside towards the sunlight. We all had been longing for the bright light of the sun for almost a day or so. It was a trait I wish
to find within myself. Humility. I knew it wasn't within me from the begining but I was determinedto instill it within me.Finally after a while , Jenifer too found herself facing the river Jem but unlike us she was thinking. She was always a step ahead of us , somewhat like Christopher but much more wiser.
"So, the prophecy. ...." said I, remembering Jenifer's statement.
Christopher and John's heads turned to Jenifer. Her eyes were fixed on the river , while , Jason who was in charge of lighting the fire stopped rubbing the two sticks in his hands. Daniel, who was setting up the tents looked up at Jenifer after his failed attempts and Silvia stared at her with utmost attention.
"The lostoringians too had a prophecy. A prophecy of a prince of Lostoringia who would be allies with the princess of Aramanda. He during the dark days would fight the princess's battles till it was time for her to come. He is to pave her way to victory." said Jenifer , her eyes finally falling on me.
"So that means , we'll win the war ?" John asked, gazing at Jenifer.
"I do not want to discourage you but it all depends. You see, both prophecies speak of war , one in detail and one not. The only thing it says is if Aramanda is to ever win this battle , the princess has to defeat the evil." Jenifer says with her eyes on John.
"But the flag says 'May the great Amen bestow His blessings on you & protect you from evil ' , how can the princess be the Lion ?" John asked, looking at me.
"In here it is invoking God's blessings on on the people of Lostoringia. The people of Lostoringia fear that they might side the evil at any point in time." Jenifer said , walking closer towards us slowly. Her body language conveyed that she was still thinking.
"How do you know so much ?" Christopher, asked eyeing her curiously. He didn't seem to like her great amount of knowledge but I do not judge him. If I had been in his shoes, I wouldn't have either , he barely knows how knowledgeable she is.
"I read , quiet a lot , your majesty. As soon as we decided on leaving for Ethica , I walked up to the library and read up on the topics which would perhaps be useful for us." Jenifer smiled , her plump lips curving ever so elegantly. Her grey eyes smiled the all knowing smile but I could see the worry in her face.
We were all , in fact , worried. The whole idea of the future of hundreds of people resting in my hands was surreal to me as well as the others. My mind couldn't comprehend the fact at all , though I hate to admit it , my actions are not out of the love for my people but out of the sudden impulse within myself to protect my family. It somehow for me felt like the good I'm doing is for myself and I feel guilty of bring a selfish human.
"That's Ethica." , Christopher pointed out,"We're close but let's hope we are not attacked once again."
"I wonder how the Nerezza got in to the tunnel." Dan muttered under his breath well enough for us to hear. He stretched his hands , with a deep breath but he still had a very thoughtful look on his face.
"The tunnel has to two exits , the one we got in from and the other right here. The one near the Jem river is highly impossible to open since , we know it was still rusty when we opened it. If the Nerezza were to ever get in, they would have to get in through the entrance of the tunnel from which we got in." Christopher, concluded his index finger and thumb resting on his chin. He sat down on the ground along with Silvia and Dan while the rest of us followed suit.
"So you mean to say , someone let them in ?" Jason asked , seating himself beside me, to which Christopher merely nodded still brooding over his thoughts and latest analysis.
"But who ? I'm sure Frostina has a more craftier method to find the prophecy." Silvia said , her eyes scanning Dan's, who seemed to be in a world of his own.
"No. This is crafty." said John , directing our attention towards him ," Assuming, that Frostina knows nothing about where the prophecy is , I'd come to the conclusion that she is following us. Following us till we find the prophecy so she can grab it before we can get a glimpse of it or she was here to kill either you Esther or the prince of Lostoringia as in Dan or Jason whoever."
"Wait.", said I , finally realising a bit of Frostina's scheme ," I think Prince James was captured because the orders given to Nerezza was perhaps to find the prince of Lostoringia who she must have assumed that we had found considering the fact that they perhaps found the true princess of Aramanda. The prophecy has something to do about the prince of Lostoringia making a path for the princess to defeat her and now that she found out James is not the prince , it is very likely that she aiming for either Dan or Jason."
"Wait , but somebody has to let them in. I mean they can't just waltz in without the guards knowing." Jason spoke out , hus words were exactly what I was about to conclude with.
"What do you mean ?" Dan asked still not getting the point.
"We have a traitor in our midst." I said , my gaze falling on the person I suspected the most. Silvia.
