Murphy lied awake, just hours after Raven's meltdown, sitting by her side as she finally fell asleep. He watched her seem to be at peace for what may be the first time in a long time, or even the first time ever.
"Damnit, Raven..." he mumbled, "I wish..." He stopped. He couldn't tell if it was because he was scared to say what came next out loud, or simply because he was overcome with frustration. Murphy was a lot of things, but nobody ever gave him credit for how protective he truly was when he cared about someone. He took a deep breath but it didn't calm him down, and before he knew it, he picked up the walkie by Raven's side and made his way out of the dropship towards the forest.
"Damnit..." he spoke softly into the walkie, trying to stay as calm as he could, "Why are you refusing to be here for Raven? I understand shit happened but you're not the only one that's been to hell. Raven needs you. You are being selfish and stupid and I hate watching her in all this pain." He kept walking further into the woods, his pace getting slightly faster and angrier with every step and every word.
He came to a frantic stop and yelled into the walkie. "I'm watching the girl I love cry over her friend that couldn't care less!" He froze, partially in shock of what he just said and also because it was that very moment he heard a sword leave it's scabbard. "Shit."
"She doesn't need me, she needs you to tell her you love her." Octavia spoke, just a few feet behind Murphy.
"She doesn't care about me. I forced her to let me come here to find you. She didn't care. She only cares about you."
Silence. No response. Murphy turned around to see Octavia's face full of remorse and fear. It was an Octavia he has never seen before.
"I don't know what it is about girls bonding over dead boyfriends but you left her when she was more than willing to be there for you."
"I didn't want her to see me like this. She deserves better. I never thought I'd say this, but... she deserves you." Murphy flashed a compassionate look at the broken warrior that had now put away her sword. "I can't be around anybody anymore. I see him everywhere. I am so angry and scared and... she doesn't need that."
"Are you kidding me?" He raised his voice. "She's been that! She watched the love of her life get killed too! She broke! But she dealt with it! She mourned and she got over it! She didn't run away, she faced her friend that killed him! Her friend! She was broken but she didn't let it break her! She didn't let it turn her into some run away emo chick." Octavia's body stood still. Her face, however, spoke a story. With her jaw dropped, she showed shock. Her eyebrows furrowed into anger. Her eyes cried regret. Murphy saw two small tears fall down her face. "Go to her. Just... you aren't alone so stop acting like you are and go to her. Go there and mourn with her. She will let you. She will mourn with you." He reassured her.
"You really do love her." She murmured.
"That's how I know she loves you." He nodded his head while biting the inside of his cheek. She nodded back and turned around towards the drop ship. Towards Raven.
