"Reyes, how was last night?" Murphy winked at me as I walked outside. I rolled my eyes and laughed in response. "That good?"
"That bad! You're not very good at this."
"He's a douche anyways, I knew you wouldn't like him."
"Then why'd you try to set us up?" I kept walking with no real destination, Murphy followed close.
"I know how you are, figured you'd have a little fun out of it. I mean, you did sleep over..." He raised his eyebrows in slight suspicion. I took a deep breath.
"Well, no I didn't, I hung out with Octavia last night." I spoke, not stopping or slowing my pace. Murphy, however, was frozen feet behind me.
"Octavia... the same Octavia Blake I know?" I sighed and turned around.
"Yeah. We hung out, talked. She's not that bad."
"You sure you just talked?" He smirked suggestively and I, well, I limped over to him and punched him in the arm. "Shit, it was a joke." I tried to keep myself from laughing but I let a small smile escape. He smiled at the ground for a second before I turned around and kept walking. "What did you guys talk about?"
"We were drunk, I don't really remember." I lied.
"Sounds like you."
"What can I say, it had been a long time since I had that quality moonshine, I had to enjoy it!" We both laughed and stopped at the doors of the mess hall.
"Can I join you for breakfast?" He stood in a way that seemed so... cocky, I just laughed and nodded my head.
"Stop trying to act so cool around me. It won't make me fall in love with you." Even when I'm sober I let stupid things slip out of my mouth. I looked at him and let him know I messed up, he was just confused. "Actually, I'm not super hungry." I said and limped as fast as I could back towards Octavia's room, leaving him standing alone.
Before I walked inside, I heard a familiar voice speaking in a language that I had trouble learning. I turned to see Octavia speaking to Lincoln, looking very pissed off. I slowly made my way towards them, trying not to interrupt, but as soon as she saw me she dismissed him.
"Nice timing, Reyes."
"I think I accidentally told Murphy I know he likes me." She pursed her lips and tried not to laugh out loud.
"How the hell did you manage to do that."
"I was talking about last night while we were going to get breakfast and he stood like, he looked like he was trying way too hard, and I just burst out and said "acting cool won't make me fall in love with you" then I made a face, like an obvious 'oh shit' face. Then I just left."
"You should have talked to him about it!"
"What's the point, I don't have any feelings for him so that would ruin our weird friend thing." Octavia looked at the ground and laughed to herself.
"You really did need a girl friend, huh?" I nodded, feeling a little defensive, but I knew that pushed people away.
"Listen, I never had anyone but Finn, and I was a certain way around him that nobody else ever saw. After that went south and... everything happened, I haven't opened up like that at all. I mean, I talk to Murphy sometimes, Jasper once in a while, even Abby when she bugs me enough. But I haven't had a friend like Finn since Finn." Octavia sighed and I looked away, but then she surprised me. She wrapped her arms around me for a few seconds before I realized, she was hugging me. I hugged her back and we parted after it felt overdone.
"I never left my room growing up so Bell was all I had, but when we came down here... things were so different. He was different, I was different. And we started clashing more and more. And Lincoln, as I start becoming more... me, a new me, and he started changing too... I just think we both need a new friend like we had or whatever." She said nonchalantly. That's the thing about Octavia, she says emotional things sometimes with no emotion. It's a talent, because I just say everything angrily. "So this is what we do. You can trust me, I'll trust you. You should talk to Murphy, tell him about that night and tell him where you're at, how you feel. He should understand. If not... I've been wanting to punch him good for a long time." I laughed.
"Deal. And Lincoln...?"
"We're at the point where we know we love each other still, but he's growing and finding a new people, it just so happens to be the people that locked me up my entire life. And it's too... eerie for me, I guess. To see him wear that jacket." She turned around to look at Lincoln grooming her horse, then looked back with a shy smile.
"I know."
"Now you go talk to Murphy, tell me what happens later!"
"Girl talk is so weird, I think I did it once with Clarke..."
"Lucky you." She laughed and shook her head. I nodded and turned back around to find Murphy.
