Plan B

Piper POV

"Absolutely, positutely, definitely, certainly, unquestionably, undoubtedly not" Grover stated stubbornly. "I have a reputation you know Mclean". I scoffed. "Reputation of what? Stalking the Aphrodite Cabin? Having chunks of metal stuck between your teeth?" Grover placed a hand over his chest offended. "I do not..." He paused to feel between his teeth "Do I?". I rolled my eyes. "You know I need to be here. I'm on lighting." I said for the third time. "Well what about brick-face over here?" Grover gestured to Jason, who responded to the comment with a practiced scowl. I regarded him thoughtfully. "Can you dance?" I asked, considering the possibility. Jason looked dumbfounded. "Why not Grover?!" he retorted, dodging the question. "Why not you?" Grover said directly to him this time. "Why not you?" Jason echoed. "Oh jeez both of you, shut your pie-holes. Flip a coin or something you wimps". Grover eyed Jason warily. "Scissors, paper, rock". Jason looked at Grover with a newfound irritation. "What are we, five?" I clapped my hands together, all too aware of the short duration of the song. "DO IT" I snapped. Jason shot me a look, before putting his hand out in front of Grover. "Scissors, paper, ROCK" they both emphasised the last word, slamming their hands onto their palms. Jason's eyes grew wide. "No...." Grover's rock landed just a little too hard on Jason's scissors,  alongside a triumphant yelp from the satyr. "Best of three" Jason demanded, but Grover had already abandoned the velvet box in Jason's palm and disappeared into the crowd with a smirk. Jason looked at me, the realisation of what he was about to do dawning on him. "Pipes..." but he died off, knowing it was already settled. I pushed him towards the dancing couple. 

Annabeth POV

Oh my gods. Percy Jackson. My Percy Jackson. Can dance. Who'd have guessed?! I had allowed him to take the lead, guiding me in a slow, easy dance around in a circle. He drew me into his chest, his chin resting on my head. There was once a time when he  was shorter than me. I remember looking down slightly to look at him, and the slow triumphant smirk that grew in direct proportion to his height. I was initially irritated when he overtook me, but now I felt as though we made the perfect puzzle, my height a perfect match for underneath his chin. However, the moment was snatched away when a gruff voice from behind me said "may I have this dance". I turned around to see a mildly irritated Jason with his waiting hand out. Wondering why on Earth he'd want to dance with me, I said "Yeah, but this is Perc and my song, can it wait..." But he cut me off. "Not you Annabeth". I stood shocked for a moment, before the rising laughter inside me rolled out of my mouth. "You want to dance with Percy? HAHAHAHAHHAA". He went bright red, but his hand remained extended. I looked at Percy, whose eyebrows were raised in a disconcernable expression. I laughed again, before taking a step back, raising my hands in surrender. "I know better than to get in the middle of your bromance". Jason's cheeks reddened further, but he grabbed Percy's hand, and started waltzing away from me. I rolled my eyes, going off to find Piper or Hazel. 

Percy POV

"Dude you know I'm asking a girl to marry me tonight?" I snickered. Jason glared at me. He'd dropped the velvet box into my pocket as soon as Annabeth had turned her back, but still held me. "You owe me SO big Jackson" he seethed. "SO BIG. Like, firstborn child big". I smirked. "I'm not going to have a firstborn child unless I give Annabeth the ring in the next 30 seconds" I bit, suddenly time-conscious. "I have to find her". With that, I disentangled myself from Jason's grip and set off into the crowd. 

Jason POV

I watched Percy's retreating back and sighed, brainstorming all the things I would now make him do for me, when a short black-haired boy sidled up beside me. "May I have this dance?" the boy mocked my previous question to Percy. I groaned. "Shut up Nico."
