Chapter 29

Ezra's POV:

We reached the middle of the base and that was the place where the rest was. They were talking with some shutters from squadron K. They were already back. Everyone should be now...

"Commander! The patrol of squadron K was successful." Shutter 32 said.

"Glad to hear that. Any problems?"

"No, sir. Not even any sight of the bounty hunters squadron D encountered last week."

"Good. At ease."

The shutters walked towards their cabins and I turned to see Kanan and Hera looking at me.

"What?"

"Nothing. We're just amazed by how much respect you get from those people." Kanan said

"Respect is really important here. If you give respect, you will receive it back." I said with a lovely smile.

"Your friends here learned that." Tyro said through gritted teeth.

"We're sorry..." Zeb said rubbing the back of his head.

"It's okay Zeb." I said.

"Commander it-" Moreena and Tyro started.

"Shut it." I cut them off.

"Everyone makes mistakes. Remember?" I continued while looking at the two.

They looked at the ground.

"What do you mean?" Zuko asked.

"When I arrived here they laughed at me. Because they thought I was useless. Like Commander Sato said. After I proved myself, they even respected me." I explained.

"That's true. We all make mistakes." Tyro said giving away a small smile.

After that my com went off and I excused myself to the rest so I could leave to listen to the message.

"Captain Greyan for Commander Bridger, Do you copy?"

"I copy, captain. What's it?"

"Everything okay there?"

"Of course. Why?"

"No reason. I want you to spread a message to 3 of our shutters."

"What kind of message?"

"You know that we'll send 3 shutters to the Phoenix Squadron, right?"

"Yes, I know. I had a question about that."

"What's your question?"

...

"Can I be one of the 3 shutters?"

I closed my eyes waiting for his response...

"I need you Ezra. I can't let you go."

I sighed and buried my head in my hands.

"Ezra? I know you wanted to go... but I need you at our base. I'm sorry."

"I understand... " was all I could get out of my mouth.

"I'm back tonight. Ow and tell it the 3 shutters."

"Who?"

"Shutter 2, 3 and 5."

"What!!!" I yelled, forgetting that I was still outside so everyone heard me, but I didn't care at all!

"Yes. 2, 3 and 5. Till tonight. Captain out."

I couldn't believe it... my two best friends were going to leave and shutter 5 is going too!? She almost killed Lissyene when they were captured! No way I let her go! But I have to...

"What did he say?" Moreena, Tyro and the Rebels showed up behind me and I realized it was Moreena who asked.

"The captain decided which shutters go to the Phoenix Squadron."

"You are going with us, right?" Kanan, Dawn and Hera said in unison.

That made me look at the ground.

"No."

"What?!" Everyone yelled.

"Then who will?" Moreena and Tyro asked.

"You. And shutter 5." They looked at me in the hope that I was joking.
