I sat there looking through some pictures on my phone to see if it would bring back anything. After seeing my God Mother yesterday I just wanted to know if there was anything else that was crucial in my life. I could already gather that I was the vein type since most pictures were of me in various poses. I sighed as I continued to go through the pictures. Nothing was coming back to me so I soon gave up and relaxed in the living-room instead. The programme on TV was called EastEnders. Weird thing is, I don’t recall the title, but I remembered the characters. I put my aching feet up on the chair and continued watching when Riana came and sat next to me. She was chewing bubble gum and texting on her phone.

"You alright?" she asked me. I nodded and gave a convincing smile. "And has anything come back?" I shook my head. The only thing I knew so far is characters from a programme and a damn swing. How the hell is that going to get me anywhere? She frowned slightly and patted my leg reassuringly. "Ah don’t worry, soon you'll remember me." I shrugged and she laughed. Just then her phone rang and she answered. I wasn’t one to eavesdrop, but Riana had a big mouth and she was right beside me.

"What do you want?"

"...."

"Yeah, so?"

"...."

"You really think I'd come wid you to link man?"

"...."

"I swear you already have Tyreece. What's wrong with you?"

"...." She raised a brow.

"Who’s Kieran?"

"...."

"You have to stop this, Olivia. Soon Tyreece is gonna find out what you've been doing behind his back. When he does, don’t come bawlin’ to me."

"...."

"Okay whatever, your decision." She hung up and kissed her teeth. I just looked at her, blinking dumbly. I had no clue who Olivia was, but she seemed like a first-class hoe. I laughed at my thoughts and Riana turned to me. "What's funny?"

"Nothing," I answered with a giggle. She rolled her eyes.

"Where's mum?" I shrugged.

"I think she went to see Tanisha again," I answered, now changing the channel to something less ridiculous. Suddenly the doorbell sounded.

"You get it," we both said at the same time. We turned to eachother.

"No, you get it," we both said again. Riana smiled.

"You know before your accident we used to do that," she muttered softly in nostalgia. "I think the old you is coming back." I laughed and stood up to answer the door. I opened the door to see a mixed-race man of average height with a medium build, trimmed hair and bright brown eyes. He saw it was me and his face softened.

"Erica..." he spoke in low tones. I watched him blankly, wondering when it would be a good time to close the door since I felt uncomfortable. For some reason something didn’t sit right with this man. I could accept Uncle Trey yesterday since he had a friendly aura about him...but this guy...there was something different. I yelped as he pulled me into a tight hug. I remained completely still as he released a pent up sigh of relief.

"You’re okay," he whispered. I was completely baffled as to who he was so I waited for him to release me. When he did I saw that he had tears in his eyes. There was something about his presence that seemed familiar, but I couldn’t place a finger on it. He gripped my shoulders with firm hands and peered at me.

"Do you remember me?" he asked quietly. My eyes scrutinised him intently, but nothing was coming back.

"No," I muttered after some brief silence. He sighed and used the cuff of his sleeve to wipe his eyes. "Why are you here?" I asked curiously. He stepped past me and pushed the door closed. Wow, okay, make yourself at home then. He gazed down at me with longing sadness.
