The next few weeks went by fast. I fell into a groove, it basically just became the same thing over and over. Lucas finally started acting like himself again , it's nice to have my best friend back. I'm at a standstill with Claire, it's like she doesn't notice me sometimes but me and Brooke have become close just Because of How much we actually have in common, and the fact that her and Lucas get along is great I'm glad to have a good couple of friends. As I said I got into a groove until today in particular, everything was normal until Claire stopped me after class and handed me her number her reasoning being the project we were working on together (which we just finished in class that day, which is why I was confused) and she told me to text her after school. My heart fluttered, it's Friday maybe she'll want to hangout I thought to myself as I caught up to Brooke, we have been walking to class together since there's only one class we don't share. Brooke has been a great friend she always asks how I'm doing and lately she brings me candy and snacks to school, which I appreciate her being such a good friend. The day kind of dragged on but I thought it was alright. As I was about to head to the bus I got a text from Brooke reading " hey, my mom doesn't need my help today could I maybe come over and hangout?" I was a little surprised Brooke didn't seem like the type to want to hangout after school I gave it thought for a good minute then replied with " sure just meet me by the buses and we can". I waited a few minutes until Brooke came up to me smiling more than I've ever seen her smile, we got on the bus and headed to my house. I texted my mom that I had a friend over as I unlocked the door and lead Brooke in, we didn't do much that day just watched a couple of monster movies until her mom picked her up. After she left it struck me that Claire wanted me to text her, I pulled out my phone and texted her, it wasn't much at first just small talk until she asked me if I was free tomorrow. "Yeah, why?" I asked and within 30 seconds I received a phone call from her, she wanted to go to the mall so I agreed, i went to bed not too long afterwards almost too excited to sleep. All I could think was "wow she just invited me somewhere, just the two of us". I woke up around 10 in the morning and ate, brushed my teeth and got ready my mom had to run a few errands so I had to leave earlier than I intended.
My mom dropped me off at the mall and gave me money to spend, my mom was a wonderful person she was super nice and caring, of course she would be being a doctor and all, ever since my dad left us she's been really supportive wanting me to do what I wanted. I see Claire and walk over to her, she was different today than usual, she talked to me a lot, and of course flirted with me, later on in the day Lucas came to the mall and Hung out with us, we went into a few stores and I got a few things nothing too important. At one point Lucas pulled me aside and talked to me, he told me he wanted to go camping next weekend, which I happily obliged to. Lucas was as excited to go camping with me as I was to hangout with Claire, he left shortly afterwards and the rest of the day went by fast, when it was all over she turned to me and had a surprisingly shy tone and looked like she was nervous when she said " I really like you, i have since day one and I just wanted to know if you maybe wanted to be with me" I responded with a smile and I said "yes" of course, she smiled and held my hand as we walked through the last few stores we hadn't gone into yet, it was a perfect ending to the perfect day. When I got home it was about 11 so I went straight to bed only to wake up at 12 pm by a phone call. "Hello?" I answer in a raspy tone, on the other end of the phone a woman with a very panicky depressed voice answers back with "Ethan, this is Lucas' s mother I just called to tell you that... well.... it's just.....
Lucas is dead."
