chapter twenty nine; original song B E A U
"Guys, I've got some bad news." Mr. Shue said as he entered the glee club room. "You know how we decided on 'Sing' by My Chemical Romance for Regionals?" He asked us as he sat his bag down.
"Well, I hold in my hand a cease and desist letter from the band. We can't do it. It was the perfect anthem." Mr. Schuester announced while holding up the sheet of paper.
"How much do you want to bet Coach Sylvester has something to do with this?" Finn asked. "So what are we going to do now?" Tina questioned.
"I think we should write original songs for regionals." Rachel suggested. "All those in favor of voting Rachel down a second time?" Santana asked as half of the room raised their hands.
"No. I think Rachel is right. This team works best when we push ourselves and do something a little different." Finn stated and Rachel looked at him with that bashful expression she always wears when she receives a compliment.
"That's all fine and dandy but, the only person in here who has any sort of songwriting experience is Beau. Why don't we just have him write the song?" Mike asked and I looked at him like he was crazy.
"Do you know how long songwriting can possibly take? I'm flattered but, I'm not writing a song for regionals by myself." I stated honestly.
"If all the other teams are doing amazing songs we're not going to be so good." Artie said bluntly. "You're right. We're not going to be as good. We're going to be better." Mr. Shue smiled.
"We won't be using other people's words or music. It'll be our own. Our own heart, soul, not just our voices. We have two really talented songwriters in our midst. Rachel and Chris." Mr. Shue smiled.
"I was thinking maybe you and I could write a song together." Quinn said to Rachel. "I'm with Quinn and Rachel. I mean, if these two can agree on something, it's probably an idea worth considering." Finn said.
"Wait, wait, so suddenly, you two are writing the music for Regionals? No way. I think that everyone should get a chance to write a song." Santana said seriously.
"Santana's right. We can do this." Rachel smiled. "What do you think, Mr. Shue?" Mercedes asked. "I think we're doing original songs for Regionals." Our teacher smiled.
*THE NEXT DAY*
"Beau, do you have any songs that you would like to sing?" Mr. Shue asked me abruptly. "I do but, I don't think they have that feel you were taking about earlier." I replied honestly.
