His sudden interruption caught me off guard for a moment, but I quickly regained my wits.
"I, Conner Delian, accept you Liam Caldin as my mate. Now let's get this stupid thing over with.", I jogged over to where the rest of the girls were waiting. The counsel, which had kept silent up until now, spoke up.
"If you are done with all this nonsense then we will resume. Can the next young lady please step forward.", he was the Werewolf representative. He looked like a typical old, wrinkly man (who's name I didn't know) but he held a deep voice that compelled you to obey.
One by one each of the remaining girls stepped up and received her ring, but wasn't allowed to wear it just yet. As I waited in line I took a moment to glance at all the counsel members that had shown up, none of which I knew the names of. The Witch representative's appearance didn't surprise me. Instead of having long, white hair and warts on her face like a stereotypical witch, she seemed to barely be reaching her early 50s with grayish-black hair. And she did nothing to mask her quite obvious boredom. Next to her was the Vampire representative, with a stoic expression and literal dead eyes. By even without an expression he seemed as equally bored as the Witch. His long and slender nails rhythmically tapped against the chair he was sitting on and his long white hair was neatly brushed to the side.
Some of the chairs next to them were empty, I assumed that a few belonged to he Mermaids, Wizards, and Fairies but couldn't remember who the rest belonged to. The Werewolf representative was sitting right next to the empty seats and next to him was the Dragon representative. His face was partially decorated with piercings and scales. For some unknown reason he wore no shirt, only a long robe which didn't help in covering the scars that decorated his chest. He looked old enough to be pass as my oldest brother but a gut feeling told me that he was much older than even my grandfather. All of the counsel mans guards stood behind them at a distance, none of them moving or even showing expressions, like living statues.
Finally I was the last to go up and receive my ring. I could feel all eyes on me, and for some odd reason I felt the Dragon representative's eyes staring as if he could see my very soul.
"Now, place your ring on the third finger of your left hand." We all did as we were told slowly the rings began to change color. I looked around to see the others colors, some girls had silver, some were gold, some green, I noticed that the girls that usually slept around had pitch black rings. That can't be good, I thought to myself.
The counsel man spoke up once more,"Form groups with other girls that have the same color ring you do. Then you may show yourselves to your mate and family membe-",he was cut off by some obnoxious voice,"What do the colors mean?"
The guards were all about to lunge at whoever had asked that but the counsel men retained them. "How about you answer that mademoiselle Selene ?", the Vampire representative said to the witch in a soothing, velvety voice. The witch turned and gave him a sickly sweet smile, of course it was fake, and answered, or more like spat out, "It would be my pleasure, Count Vladimir."
She directed her bored voice toward all of us, "Since you are so eager to know I'll explain now, but listen closely because I won't repeat myself. If you have a silver ring, that means that you have kissed another person other than your mate. A gold ring means you've slept with one other person, a green ring means you've used some sort of drug. And a black ring means you've slept with multiple people.", at the end of her explanation lots of girls with black, green, or silver rings were crying and I noticed that many of the mates and family members in the audience held anger within their eyes.
Conner what color are we?
I looked down at my ring and a small wave of confusion comes over me. My ring doesn't match any of the colors the witch mentioned.
