Run, don't look back. Don't let them find you, don't let them find him. Keep on going, faster. I stumbled through an unknown forest tripping over bushes and bumping into trees. I firmly held on to the blade in my right hand through all the tumbling. My body felt so heavy and tired for some reason. I think I felt blood trickling from my stomach and running down my legs, but still I kept running. Running from what exactly I did not know, nor did I want to wait and find out.
I halted when I came face to face with a waterfall going over a cliff. I heard thundering footsteps behind me getting closer.
They're here, Aura said.
I know, was my only response.
"There's nowhere to turn to anymore Conner. We have you surrounded and you're too weak to fight us all. Surrender and give yourself to me and only me!", I turned to face a man who's name I did not know, but who's face was strangely familiar. I looked at all the wolves, men, and vampires surrounding me in turn. A smile crept its way to my face.
"Never.", with that I thrust the blade into my chest.
"No!", the man lunged forward as I fell back down the waterfall.

That was the last thing I thought as I felt my mates bond slowly disappear.
I jolted awake gasping for air while clutching my chest. That dream again. I hadn't dreamt it in years, why would I dream it now?
Conner come to my study, now please., I've been awake for two seconds and my dad was already bugging me.
Let me drink my medicine first, I'll head down afterwords. I reached over to the nightstand by my bed and grabbed the countless pills I had to take each morning. Their foul taste didn't bother me anymore, well not like they use to.
As soon I was done I headed downstairs not bothering with my mane or even changing into clean clothes.
I walked into my fathers study without knocking as usual. My father, mother and Kilon were all in there and discussing something that I couldn't hear, but stopped as soon as I entered.
"Good morning biological male and female parental figures of mine. And good morning to you too good sir who tried snacking on my arm." Kilon gave me a curt nod and my parents rolled their eyes at my antics.
"We have a lot to discuss Conner, have a seat.", my dad gestured to one of the chairs but I knew exactly what we were discussing.
"You wanna talk about this stupid dragon marked my freaken arm. Also the fact that now I have to go with him to compete to be his stupid princes mate? And the fact that I don't wanna go but I have no choice? Was that it or was there something else?", I say while trying to keep my anger under control. My father nodded.
"Conner I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do. You have to go and see what happens."my mother said in a soft voice. "Kilon will explain everything.", his eyes flickered to her for a moment and then to me.
"The plan is that I will deliver you to the kingdom and you will be staying at the castle with the other participants, I believe there are four others and they're all females, for the duration on the trials. I don't not know how long the trials will last but at the end the prince will announce which one of you girls will be his mate. Before you ask we do this because dragons do have a destined mate but sadly in all of my princes 976 years of living, he has never met his mate.", his eyes were downcast as he said this and they held deep sadness in them. Suddenly he snapped out of whatever trance he was in,"Moving on, in these trials only the heirs of noble and high houses may participate, this is done in an effort to keep the royal bloodline strong and as pure as possible. And no you being a werewolf isn't a problem because you are the Pure, your body is made to fit all supernatural creatures. Also you will be entering the trials under the pretext that you are my niece not the Pure. I have made all of the arrangements and we will be leaving tomorrow morning."
"Tomorrow?! That's way too soon. Besides I have school and homework! And how is Selene going to teach me to use my powers if I'm pretending to be a dragon? In case you forgot I'm a werewolf! I turn into a giant doggo not a flying, super sized, fire breathing lizard!", I couldn't wrap my head around all of what he was saying.
"Worry not. Selene will be accompanying us for the duration of the trials. You should know that female dragons do not ever shift into a dragon in their entire life. Before you ask I will explain. The reason our population is, in a way limited in the female population, is because carrying and giving birth to a dragon is extremely dangerous. Less than half of the women who are pregnant survive they birth of their child. Since they are a child women are groomed to be healthy and live a stress free life as a way to prepare their bodies and maybe give them a better chance at surviving. Male soldiers who's mates are pregnant are excused from any and all duty until, and in almost all cases, some time after their child is born. They are by their mates side at all time because the risk of her having a miscarriage is also high. If and when they do not survive the birth we help the male cope and help them with the raising of their child."
"Uh wow. Okay then. Whew, that's crazy. And sad. What the fuck man now I'm sad.", my head exploded as he finished explaining.
"No use in delaying, hurry and go pack, and do whatever else you need to. And before I forget, you will have no contact whatsoever with anyone in your family or pack while the trials are in progress. That will be all so please don't argue."
My mouth opened and closed like a fish, my emotions were everywhere. I looked towards my parents for help but the face they made said that they could do nothing. I stormed out of my fathers study with no destination in mind.
